The holiday season is all about giving thanks and giving back. ✨ DTA's Commissioner and Associate Commissioner of Food Security & Nutrition Programs were thrilled to participate in The Greater Boston Food Bank's annual Chain of Giving today! This annual event kicks off the holiday season as volunteers stand side-by-side to unload a truckload of donated turkeys, ensuring thousands across Eastern Massachusetts can enjoy the tradition of a healthy holiday meal.

Meet Kayleigh Manion, a Civil Engineer II in the Bridge Maintenance Department! She kicked off her journey at MassDOT in June 2021 as a Highway Engineering Intern focused on construction. Later that same winter, she took on another Highway Engineering Internship in the Project Development Department. This opportunity to explore various engineering fields helped her discover her passion for construction. In June 2022, she returned to MassDOT as a Civil Engineer I in construction, and by February 2023, she secured her current role in the Bridge Maintenance Department. Kayleigh appreciates the chance to navigate different opportunities within MassDOT, making it a fantastic workplace for her. MassDOT offers Kayleigh a work-life balance that she finds hard to achieve elsewhere. With projects happening throughout the Commonwealth, she can work close to home and positively impact her community. This aspect of her job is what she finds most fulfilling, as she leaves each day knowing she’s contributing to better roads for everyone. Kayleigh encourages future interns to ask plenty of questions. “No question is too small or silly,” she says, emphasizing that interns are there to learn and gain valuable experience. While college equips you with the theoretical knowledge of engineering, MassDOT provides hands-on experience in the field.
