CMG is set up for the future in an even stronger way with 2 important internal promotions this week. First, Darren Moore will be CMG's first SVP & Chief Sales Officer - CMG Television. Darren is a legacy team member - his dad worked for CMG in Pittsburgh (WPXI-TV) - and will be accountable for CMG's sales and revenue strategy across its TV business. That includes a focus on helping our advertisers expand their reach. Second, Omesh Somaru was promoted to VP/GM of CMG-TV Jacksonville and will lead WJAX-TV and WFOX-TV (a Hoffman Communications' station). Omesh will continue building on Jacksonville's strong momentum and ratings. Darren and Omesh are strong leaders with innovative business minds. One covered world events and watched history unfold in front of his camera, and the other is a nationally renowned consumer advocate. Both CMG media icons were inducted into the Atlanta Press Club Hall of Fame this week. Tony Light, WSB-TV's Chief Photographer, has relentlessly pursued truth and authenticity through his photography. His ability to convey complex stories through compelling images has left a lasting impact on the field of photojournalism. Clark Howard, a member of the National Radio Hall of Fame, is a renowned consumer advocate and financial expert. His approachable, no-nonsense style quickly gained popularity and led to national syndication of "The Clark Howard Show." CMG's Investigative Reporting team is improving the lives of millions of people ... and the industry is taking notice. The team recently won a Barlett & Steele Gold Prize for its investigative series “Overpayment Outrage,” a collaboration between KFF Health News and eight of our local TV stations. The reports provided an in-depth exposé of the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) demands to be repaid for overpayment errors it made, and the hardship this placed on recipients. As a result, the Social Security Administration announced sweeping policy changes to stop what SSA Commissioner Martin O’Malley called the “clawback cruelty” of withholding 100 percent of people’s benefits to recoup overpayments. This is a great example of how CMG - and the broadcast industry at large - is improving the lives of millions of people, protecting consumers, and positively impacting viewers and communities. This is our "why" and what makes our work so meaningful.
Massive kudos to CMG's southeast TV and Radio stations. While they were airing hundreds of hours of continuous news and storm coverage during hurricanes Helene and Milton, they also raised nearly $1M for relief efforts while providing tons of food, water, and other necessities. Here's a look at one of the mobile charging stations we took into communities to help people recharge their mobile phones and other devices. Our CMG Radio Jacksonville (led by 104.5 FM WOKV) and CBS 47/FOX 30 Action News Jax joined forces to lead a 2-day care-a-thon in support of the Child Cancer Fund of Northeast Florida.
