Sept. 27: https://bit.ly/3XnpdagOct. 18: https://bit.ly/3XDxHeM - Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the vibrant culture, history, and contributions of the Hispanic and Latiné communities, as well as elevate the voices and stories of those who live at the intersection of multiple identities, including disability. Yesterday, we convened our corporate partner community to host a powerful webinar discussion, Celebramos Inclusion: Highlighting Intersectional Identities for Hispanic Heritage Month. Moderated by Vanessa Bowling Ajavon (of HACR - Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility), panelists including Adriana Uribe (of Tiffany & Co.), David Martinez 🎲 (of Deloitte), and Javier Barrientos (of Point32Health) shared their journeys navigating the unique challenges of being Hispanic and Latiné professionals with #Disabilities. Their insights highlighted the importance of creating safe, inclusive workplaces that embrace both cultural and disability identities. + Some Hispanic and Latiné cultures put additional emphasis on food, and this can create challenges for individuals with particular disabilities like those who may be diabetic. It's important to be mindful of this when hosting events in the workplace to build community. + Embracing the diversity within the Hispanic and Latiné communities provides value for leaders who must communicate effectively across cultures in the workplace. Likewise, having intersections with disability also makes them a more empathetic and caring leader. + The perception of disability in the Hispanic and Latiné cultures is evolving as more people become comfortable with sharing their lived experiences as a person or a caregiver to someone with a disability. Thank you to the moderator and panelists for such an engaging event!
