We are excited to announce that Jay Battleson has joined DOWL’s landscape architecture group! Jay has a master’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Colorado at Denver and a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Oregon. With over two decades of experience, Jay has made significant contributions to numerous projects across Oregon, the inter-mountain west, and North America. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership, guided younger staff, and cultivated practices that respect local ecology and culture. Jay believes that as a landscape architect it is his responsibility to create meaningful places that improve the lives of the people who occupy them. Jay brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the team, and we are thrilled he’s decided to join DOWL. At DOWL, safety is at the heart of everything we do. Each year, we recognize an individual who excels in promoting a stronger safety culture and effectively identifies, prevents, or corrects safety-related issues. Last year’s ABC Safety Award recipient was Project Manager Lincoln Brandau! Lincoln’s fellow #DOWLies commended him for always being safety minded inside and outside of the office, like that one time he helped a stranded hiker, or for suggesting ways to build in additional safety and identifying possible flaws in an approach. We are thrilled to announce that our City of Yerington Water & Sewer Rehabilitation project—the largest linear utility project the United States Department of Agriculture-Rural Development has ever funded—recently earned an American Public Works Association Nevada Project of the Year Award in the Environmental category! Yerington is a small, rural agricultural community in central Nevada with a population of just over 3,000 that was in dire need of improving its water and sewer infrastructure. Installation of both utilities dated back to between 1906 and 1920 and were the cause for continual maintenance issues.
