How can #highered help the workforce attain those #credentials more efficiently? By evaluating prior learning - especially learning gained through workforce training and experience. #becausealllearningmatters
- We applaud the work of Community College of Aurora and the many others who are working on solutions to bridge education and workforce (like Dallas Kratzer, Ph.D). Of note in this article about Microcredentials is the statement, “Critically speaking, the speed of these programs will not proficiently train students on soft (or essential) skills such as teamwork, interpersonal relations, complex thinking, or emotional intelligence.” While true, the credential paired with work experience may provide the holistic perspective universities believe they are providing in their academic programs and credit bearing courses. To close this gap, #highereducation leaders must be prepared to assess nonacademic and work-based learning experiences. Assessing prior learning and providing credit for what employees have learned through alternative programs and direct experience will be one of the key differentiators for universities able to reengage the 40M students who stopped out, entered the workforce, and are now ready to finish their degree and advance in their careers.#pla #cpl #wbl #machinelearning https://lnkd.in/gM58fRg2
