- Meet Djamila Vaz Rosa, Head Teacher at Evergreen! Djamila began her career at Evergreen as a substitute teacher in 2018. Through her great work, she received multiple promotions and is now currently Head Teacher of our Northbridge classroom! Djamila has a key role in developing the curriculum to ensure each student is receiving educational plans that best support their unique learning abilities. She provides educational assessments, develops instructional materials, and supervises instructors to ensure that our students are receiving the best educational experience for their individual needs. Djamila has studied abroad in Brazil and Portugal, where she gained valuable insights into different educational and professional practices. Living, working, and traveling around the world has profoundly influenced Djamila’s approach to her role at Evergreen. Her diverse cultural experiences have broadened her perspective, enabling her to approach challenges with greater empathy and creativity. Her time abroad has taught her the importance of adaptability and open-mindedness, which are crucial when supporting our diverse group of students and staff. Through Evergreen’s educational partnerships, she is also currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Special Education! Thank you, Djamila, for all you do in support of our students and staff. - We held our Staff Appreciation Day last week to say THANK YOU to our staff and celebrate the incredible dedication, hard work, and passion they have for our Evergreen students and community. Our staff enjoyed a delicious breakfast, an ice cream truck, massage chairs, giveaways, games, music, raffle prizes, and a BBQ lunch prepared and served by our Executive Team! We also honored our staff who are celebrating milestone years of service at Evergreen. They received awards in recognition of their continued commitment to our students and families. - Meet Donna Wilson, Education Coordinator at Evergreen! In her role, Donna is responsible for developing and coordinating Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to support the complex learning needs of our students. As a lifelong learner herself, Donna is passionate about expanding her knowledge and skills to best support the students and staff at Evergreen. She serves as one of our teacher mentors and is currently developing a program to support new teachers in growing their skills. After joining our team as a Head Teacher in 2020, Donna continued her own education, ultimately graduating with her Master of Education degree in Moderate Disabilities. She also earned her Board Certification for Special Education, completed a Professional Development course through Harvard University’s School of Education, and is currently working toward her Special Education Administrator’s License. Donna’s experience and commitment to expanding her skillset make her a valuable member of our Evergreen team! Donna has always wanted to be a teacher and was drawn to supporting individuals with special needs due to having two sons with developmental disabilities. She researched their unique challenges and worked with their therapists and teachers to find ways to help her children learn and communicate. As a parent, her personal experience of advocating for her children to receive an education inspired her to become a special education teacher. At Evergreen, Donna has utilized her advocacy skills to pursue much needed support and resources to help our students push beyond barriers. - The Evergreen Center is pleased to announce our partnership with Bridgewater State University (BSU) to offer graduate-level coursework in Special Education with a concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This collaboration reflects Evergreen's enduring commitment to advancing research in education and behavior analysis. Our alliance with BSU uniquely positions us to reinforce our dedication to evidence-based practice while providing our employees exceptional opportunities for career development in these dynamic fields. Evergreen has a rich history of working with higher education institutions to deliver premier ABA and education programs, preparing professionals for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification. Our partnership with BSU ensures that we will continue to build on our academic successes for many years to come. This initiative will be led by our accomplished team of doctoral-level clinicians, who will assume leadership and academic roles at BSU, including program coordination, teaching, and curriculum development. - Meet Shelley Brown, Health Services Associate at Evergreen! Since joining our team in 2012, Shelley has been an important member of our team, contributing to the health and safety of our students and providing valuable support to our health services department. She has a wide range of responsibilities that support the wellbeing of our students, including coordinating students’ medical appointments and ensuring that students in our residential units have the appropriate medical supplies and nutritional items to meet their needs. Outside of Evergreen, Shelley is passionate about helping rescued dogs find a permanent home. She was a volunteer with Pawfect Life Rescue, a non-profit organization that finds homes for dogs from rural areas and unsafe shelters. Through her volunteer work, Shelley’s family fostered about 70 dogs over a 7-year span! The dogs ranged in age from puppies to seniors, and her family played a huge role in helping these dogs find their forever families! Shelley’s compassion for helping others extends far beyond our students. Thank you, Shelley, for all you do in support of our students and staff, and we’re proud to have you as a member of our Evergreen community #MAAPS766 #GreatWork
