This week proved why AI sovereignty matters 🇪🇺Anthropic was forced to suspend access to its latest Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models following new US export restrictions 🚫 It is a reminder that access to frontier AI can change overnight. AI sovereignty is not about avoiding American models. We use them every day. It is about making sure your organisation is never dependent on a single model, vendor, or country. The companies that will be best positioned over the next few years are the ones that can switch between models without downtime, without rebuilding workflows, and without disrupting the business. There are security reasons, but also economic ones 💰 At our next Eye Security webinar on June the 30th, we'll discuss how organisations can prepare for exactly that future. Our research team has identified a vulnerability in Time4Popcorn, a widely distributed fork of the Popcorn Time download application. It has been assigned CVE-2026-30612. The flaw sits in the software's update component. On Windows, Mac and Android, the updater contacts its update servers over an insecure channel, letting a threat actor who can manipulate that traffic serve a malicious "update" with full privileges. The software is abandoned, so no patch is coming. The update infrastructure has largely been sinkholed by The Shadowserver Foundation, but vulnerable installs remain a risk. For now, our new blog post is deliberately focused on practical mitigation. It walks through how to disable the updater on each platform, or remove the software entirely. 👇 The bigger story, how we found this and worked to limit its impact, is the more interesting one. Yesterday, Chief Hacker Vaisha Bernard delivered his talk "Mapping Microsoft: A Story About an Attack Surface and 200 Vulnerabilities" at Experts Live Netherlands, the knowledge event around Microsoft technology. Despite a formal background in astrophysics and AI, offensive security has always been Vaisha's passion, one that took him straight to the Dutch intelligence service (AIVD). He has been with Eye Security since the very beginning in 2020, co-building our Security Operations Center and working complex Incident Response cases. Over the past two years, Vaisha has returned to what he loves most: making our customers safer by finding vulnerabilities in their attack surface and in the products they rely on. Vaisha was named Most Valuable Researcher (MVR) by Microsoft in 2025 and finished # 1 on the Microsoft Security Response Center Quarterly Leaderboard in Q4 2025, reporting 160+ vulnerabilities in a single quarter. He is also a regular on the world's biggest security stages, including Black Hat USA and the Chaos Computer Club e.V.'s Chaos Communication Congress.
