Our vision is a nation where the best health and health care is equally accessible to all.
About us
For more than 30 years, Families USA has been the trusted voice for America’s health care consumers. We believe that health care should be comprehensive, affordable, and high-quality for everyone. This belief informs our policy, research, and advocacy work. As a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, we engage with policy makers, advocates, and other thought leaders to help shape and inform the health policy debate that is taking place across America—from state capitols to newsrooms, and from rural community health centers to Capitol Hill. Our track record on producing change is strong. We have leveraged our enduring relationships with key policy makers and influencers on Capitol Hill and in the White House to help craft landmark improvements to our country’s health care system—most notably, the creation of the Children’s Health Insurance Program, the enactment of the Medicare Part D drug benefit, and the drafting and passage of the Affordable Care Act. Join us on Twitter (@FamiliesUSA), Facebook (www.facebook.com/familiesusa) and LinkedIn, (www.linkedin.com/company/families-usa) or visit us at www.FamiliesUSA.org to learn more about our work. Families USA is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to the achievement of high-quality, affordable health care for all Americans. We rely exclusively on funding from individuals and philanthropic foundations. And while we partner across the entire spectrum of the health care community to achieve our goals, we also seek to preserve the independence of our research, advocacy, and policy positions. To this end, we do not accept funding from the health care industry.

- 📣CALL FOR STATE APPLICATIONS After decades of a worsening drug overdose crisis, primarily driven by opioids, recent national data show a reduction of over 10 percent in overdose deaths. This positive trend provides state policymakers and #Medicaid programs with an opportunity to address inequities in substance use disorder (#SUD) care and strengthen SUD care systems. All states and U.S. territories can apply for this 12-month learning collaborative that will support up to four teams with planning, developing, or refining SUD-related policies that promote equitable prevention, treatment, or recovery supports. Applications are due December 20. The initiative is led by the Center for Health Care Strategies with support from The Pew Charitable Trusts and Bloomberg Philanthropies. https://bit.ly/3UNbYzm

- On #WorldDiabetesDay we recognize the 422 million people diagnosed with all types of #diabetes worldwide and the 38 million right here in the U.S. With such a high prevalence, diabetes management is critical to maintain good health and wellness, and a key tool for this is a continuous glucose monitor (#CGM). It provides real-time glucose (blood sugar) readouts, making it easier to manage diabetes and improve overall health outcomes. At Families USA, we believe that CGMs should be affordable and readily available to everyone who needs one, especially those on Medicaid. Everyone deserves the best tools for managing their health! #DiabetesAwarenessMonth #HealthEquity #AffordableHealthCare

#ICYMI: CMS recently released the 2025 #OPPS final rule, bringing key changes to the #Medicare payment system to drive the delivery of high quality and equitable care. We applaud CMS for 1) establishing national health and safety standards for the first time on the delivery of obstetric services to meet the health needs of moms and babies, 2) enacting new quality measure reporting requirements to ensure hospitals' deliver equitable care, including assessing a patients' health related social needs; and 3) expanding Medicare access to people who were formerly incarcerated. However, we were very disappointed that CMS missed the chance to promote meaningful transparency and healthy competition in the health care system by strengthening hospital price transparency rules and expanding same service same price policies. Every person should know upfront what different hospitals charge, yet too many hospitals are still not compliant; and consumers should pay the same price for the same service regardless of where they get their care. We look forward to continuing to work with CMS on these critical issues to ensure our nation's families have access to the affordable and high value care that they need and deserve.https://lnkd.in/ebG2zzPi
