On 25 September, the Delegation of Flanders in Southern Africa facilitated a symposium on the impact of climate change on the health sector at the World Congress of Epidemiology (WCE2024) in Cape Town. 🚑The WCE2024 is a triennial initiative bringing together public health experts and policymakers from around the world. 🌍 The first edition of the congress on African soil is a testament to the continent’s rapidly growing capacity in health research. 🤝 The symposium was led by the National Health Institute (INS) of Mozambique. Flanders has been working with Mozambique on health system strengthening and access to sexual and reproductive health and rights since 2002. Joint efforts and partnerships between the World Health Organisation (WHO), the INS, the ITG and Flanders have contributed to Mozambique now being one of the exemplary countries in disaster preparedness.Flanders in Southern Africa Veerle Cnudde Thomas Castrel Mauricete Angelo Ruco #WCE2024 #Flanders #international #WHO #Mozambique #INS #ITG #SRHRPhotos: Jonathan Berman -

✨ Celebrating the conclusion of the Public Sector Innovation Network (INO)! ✨ On Monday, September 9th, around 100 government colleagues gathered at Vlerick Business School in Brussels to reflect on the achievements of the Public Sector Innovation Network (INO) and the exciting projects with VITO (System Innovation) and Vlerick (Civil Entrepreneurship). It was an afternoon of insight, inspiration, and a heartfelt farewell to project leader Martin Ruebens, who retired on September 1st. 🎉 Since its start in July 2020, INO has connected and empowered government professionals to become Civil Entrepreneurs, unlocking new ways to tackle societal challenges! These civil entrepreneurs are committed to transforming not only their own work but the entire public sector through innovation and collaboration. 🌱💡; 🔍 System Innovation equipped policymakers and researchers to ask the right questions in complex environments, while Civil Entrepreneurship sharpened the skills and mindsets of public servants to create lasting impact. The network was created in 2023 on the initiative of DKBUZA's Parliamentary Relations team. No fewer than 22 Flemish government entities participated this edition. 📆The network is an annual informal moment when contact persons for parliamentary questions within the Flemish administration come together to prepare for the new parliamentary year. This is an opportunity to 🗣discuss topical themes, 🤝strengthen ties and 👌exchange good practices across policy areas. Colleagues # Daan Geysen, Niels Diels, Sofie Iserbyt and Gerrit Vermeylen were the day's speakers.

Each country has its own laws and regulations. This sometimes creates obstacles for administrations, entrepreneurs and associations that want to co-operate across borders. The Coordination Point Border Obstacles Flanders-Netherlands (Schakelpunt Grensbelemmeringen Vlaanderen-Nederland) offers a procedure for local governments, intermunicipal partnerships and interest groups to report these obstacles. How does such a coordination point work? It not only ensures smooth coordination between countries, but also between local and central governments, and between policymakers and specialists in a given subject. So far, this approach is fairly unique in Europe. The coordination point starts as an Interreg project, and is a collaboration between the Flanders Chancellery and Foreign Office of the Flemish public administration, the Netherlands Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties (Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations), the Provincie Zeeland (Province of Zeeland), ITEM/Institute for Transnational and Euregional cross-border cooperation and Mobility and UHasselt (Hasselt University). https://lnkd.in/eJUHy_MHIn the photos: the festive inauguration on 4 September in Antwerp.- +5

- On Tuesday, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Sorbonne Université by Rector Jan Danckaert and Vice-President Guillaume Fiquet, in the presence of our colleagues Yves Wantens (General Representative of Flanders in France), Lukas Van Damme, Sophie Verbist and Elisabeth Bonne. The MoU will focus on the exchange of students and staff, the establishment of joint doctorates and the implementation of a double MA degree, with 1 year of study in each institution. An exhibition around the Prikkelobjecten / Idéophores by VUB professor Domien Roggen at the Sorbonne, in close collaboration with our archives CAVA, and the Erasmus student exchange agreement are already in place for the upcoming academic year 2024-25! At the Flanders Chancellery and Foreign Office we are looking forward to these initiatives👏👏.#Flanders #France #international #academicdiplomacy

Cooperation between VUB and Sorbonne Université is off to a flying start! Cooperation between the Faculties of Arts at VUB and Sorbonne Université took an official flight on Monday 2 September with the solemn signing of the general agreement between the two institutions. Together with our colleagues and students at Sorbonne Université, we look forward to further shaping our collaboration.
