How do you simplify Medicaid navigation for millions of Americans? The process is notoriously complex, varying by state and fraught with barriers like changing eligibility rules, confusing enrollment options, and language limitations. Nikita Singareddy, CEO of Fortuna Health, outlines a three-part approach in her conversation with a16z venture partner, William Shrank: 👉🏼 Eligibility awareness: Helping households understand Medicaid eligibility, which vary based on income, immigration status, and even medical conditions. 👉🏼 Accurate enrollment: Ensuring the right information is submitted across different application methods (online, paper, in-person). 👉🏼 Renewal support: Guiding users through the renewal process to avoid denial or lapses in coverage. This Week in Medicaid includes Oregon's expansion of Medicaid to incarcerated individuals, the 1.6M uninsured adults stuck in the Medicaid "coverage gap," and New Hampshire's efforts to increase dentist participation in Medicaid oral care. Links to these reports and articles in the comment section. - We've got our eyes on a new JAMA study published by Adrianna McIntyre and shared at AcademyHealth's Annual Research Meeting on Medicaid coverage. Losing Medicaid was significantly associated with delaying care and increased healthcare costs. 📝 Across 4 states (TX, AR, KY, LA), 1 in 8 beneficiaries were disenrolled from Medicaid during the post-pandemic unwinding. ❌ 50% remained uninsured at time of survey. 👪 Most re-enrolled households had experienced gaps in coverage. If we can help your organization and patients avoid Medicaid churn and adverse outcomes, reach out! Link to the study in the comment section.
