- Joshua Kushner was just 26 years old when he founded Thrive Capital in 2011. Since then, his firm has backed some of the most notable startups of the past decade, including Instagram, Spotify, and most notably, OpenAI. The tech startup has become ubiquitous because of ChatGPT, which launched in 2022 to nearly overnight success. At the time, not many were willing to invest in the newcomer, and even Sam Altman himself told Kushner that the company was anything but a sure bet. But Thrive has ultimately put in around $1.3 billion into the ChatGPT maker since its inception. "I feel grateful that we were able to play a small part, as others were, in that very specific moment," Kushner said to Fortune Editor-in-Chief Alyson Shontell at the #FortuneGlobalForum. - Boris Johnson says President-elect Donald Trump was “pretty tough” on Vladimir Putin the last time he was in the Oval Office. But this time around, his longtime political ally is concerned that freedom and democracy globally are now more at risk—the former prime minister of the U.K. claimed Trump has advisors who admire the Russian dictator whispering into his ear. On stage at Fortune’s Global Forum conference on Monday, Johnson cautioned that the Republican party “has a weird sort of homoerotic fascination with Putin, which I personally don’t share.” Read more from the #FortuneGlobalForum here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gT5XqUfP

Had an insightful conversation this week with Jennifer Holmgren and Alex Wood Morton during the #FortuneGlobalForum about how the private and public sectors can work together to accelerate the energy transition. While Dow and LanzaTech represent different parts of the materials science industry, we both recognize the importance of advancing a transition that is reliable, affordable and secure. During our time together, we discussed how: ✔️ Creating a low-emissions future isn’t just possible, but profitable too. At Dow, we’ve outlined a clear path toward achieving both by focusing our strategy to decarbonize and grow, enabled by smart policies. ✔️ An “all of the above” approach will meet increasing energy demands by utilizing both clean and traditional energy sources as well as new, innovative technologies. ✔️ Accelerating decarbonization across the value chain requires cross-sector collaboration, like our partnership with LanzaTech, where we worked together to create cleaning solutions made from recycled carbon – delivering both sustainability and product quality.
