The partnership with Georgia Tech EXCEL and Sinclair Community College Tartan TOPS was extra special as we consider the educational opportunities to prepare for, obtain and succeed in Good Jobs in the disability community. Both programs offer credentialed education for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, complete with an exciting college experience. I am so proud and honored to have worked on this learning series alongside the Alliance for Disability Empowerment (ADE) leadership team. There’s nothing like seeing the projects you dreamed about making a real impact. A big thank you to Heather Dicks and Tristan Chaput for sharing their insights in ADE's (Alliance for Disability Empowerment) learning series, "Opportunities to Prepare for, Obtain, and Succeed in Good Jobs." The presentation highlighted the incredible work being done by Georgia Tech EXCEL and Sinclair Community College Tartan TOPS programs to support individuals with disabilities in gaining access to meaningful employment. The presentation highlighted ways we can collaborate to create a more inclusive future to ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive in the workforce by: * Partnering on career development workshops or mentorship opportunities. * Hosting networking events or job fairs focused on accessibility and inclusion. * Sharing best practices in inclusive hiring and workplace accommodation. The presentation today was the fourth session of the first employee-led month-long National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) learning series at CareSource. Shoutout to Jason Sanders, MSIS, CSM, Amy Garoutte, MBA, BSN, RN, CPHQ, Darlene Nelson, MBA, Brooke Camacho, and Brooke Skrabacz for keeping the celebration. Special thanks Kristen K. for setting our course. - Georgia Tech EXCEL reposted this

🌟 EXCEL at Georgia Tech Shines at the 2024 State of the Art Conference! We're proud to celebrate the accomplishments of two of our remarkable faculty members, Senior Lecturer Ashley McKeen and EXCEL Lecturer Nadiah Blackman, Ed.D. who are presenting their session titled "Empowering Success: Advisement Strategies for Supporting Students with Ongoing Person-Centered Planning Support" at this year’s State of the Art Conference (SOTA)! Their expertise in advising strategies and dedication to empowering our students make them invaluable members of the EXCEL team. 🙌 And a special congratulations to EXCEL graduate Martha Haythorn for being honored with the prestigious Laura Lee Leadership Award at SOTA! 🎉 Martha’s outstanding leadership and commitment to creating inclusive opportunities inspire us all. - Great news from the Gold Dome! IPSE Grants have been increased to $2.6M in support of Georgia students with intellectual disabilities. This is one step closer to making college more affordable. A huge shout out to the 21 EXCEL students who advocated for the funding increase this year by speaking to their legislators to to GCDD for all they do in support of our students.
This morning I watched as Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed the FY2025 state budget into law, and with it, a total of 2.6MforIPSEGrantstohelpcollegestudentswithintellectualdisabilities!Thiswasanincreaseofover2.6M for IPSE Grants to help college students with intellectual disabilities! This was an increase of over 2.6MforIPSEGrantstohelpcollegestudentswithintellectualdisabilities!Thiswasanincreaseofover1.6M from the previous year’s allocation. What a big win for Georgia’s inclusive post secondary education students! Heartfelt thanks to our favorite friends of IPSE under the Gold Dome: Rep. Houston Gaines, Molly Aziz, Amber Mack, MSW, Rep. Chuck Martin, Rep. Teri Anulewicz, Sen. Billy Hickman, CPA/CFF, and of course, Rep. Katie Dempsey. See Georgia’s FY25 budget here: https://lnkd.in/eYvic2FM - We also want to give a shout out to our recipients of the two-year certificate in Academic Enrichment, Social Fluency and Career Exploration.
