HAVEN is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization in Oakland County, Michigan, whose mission is to eliminate sexual assault and domestic violence. We exist to empower survivors through advocacy and social change. Educate. Collaborate. Advocate. Faith leaders from across Oakland County gathered together last week here at HAVEN to learn how they can support survivors. Places of worship are often a safe space where survivors can see help. Together, we can believe and support survivors on their journey to freedom.
Henry Ford Health held its annual Silent Witness event last week, honoring the lives we have lost to Domestic Violence this year. Our mission is clear: eradicate intimate partner violence and sexual assault. We cannot forget the lives we have lost and the importance of believing survivors, supporting survivors, and being a voice for the voiceless.
One of our biggest annual events is our Gift Giveaway, where we allow survivors and their children to shop for holiday gifts. We're starting a month of gratitude with a HUGE Thank You to WDIV Local 4 for their collaboration with HAVEN in October. WDIV's Go 4 It Live Without Fear Basic Needs Drive raised critical funds and essential items for our Residential Program Shelter Residents. We are grateful for your support as we stand with survivors taking their first steps toward freedom.
As we wrap up Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we want to thank our team and our partners for stepping up to raise awareness. We had the honor of attending several events, including the Delta Sigma Theta Domestic Violence Awareness Event. Our Prevention Education Specialists are here to help educate and connect our communities with essential resources.
