- Today is National Philanthropy Day! The Hawai‘i Community Foundation is a catalyst for change and growth in our island community. We have the privilege of working with individuals, families, businesses, and organizations who are passionate about making a difference. In honor of National Philanthropy Day, we want to know—if you could give $1M to a cause, what would it be?#NationalPhilanthropyDay
- 🤲🏾Philanthropy in action is seen through the generosity of our donors. The Friends of Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge is an example of donors who are supporting organizations that are fulfilling their vision of protecting and preserving our natural resources, vital to keeping Hawaiʻi, Hawaiʻi. HCF’s greatest strength is the enduring support of our donors, whose generosity and commitment enable transformative change across pivotal sectors of our community. 💜𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐛𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐂𝐅 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝. - Promising Minds Spotlight: Honolulu Community Action Program, Inc. Head Start & Early Head Start. We're excited to highlight the HCAP Head Start program’s incredible journey to becoming a trauma-responsive organization. Since 2022, it has been partnering with HCF’s Promising Minds initiative to implement the Resilient Early Childhood Systems Self-Assessment (RECSSA) tool. Through this partnership, HCAP Head Start has enhanced its trauma-informed practices by: Establishing a Baseline: The RECSSA tool helped HCAP assess its trauma-informed capacity and identify areas for improvement. Creating Supportive Environments: The implementation of the Pyramid Model framework across classrooms has helped to support the emotional and social well-being of both children and staff. Enhancing Engagement: Trauma-informed staff policies, parent workshops, and reflective supervision for Head Start staff have fostered a culture of understanding and community. These efforts have led to notable improvements in the emotional well-being of children, increased empathy among staff, and higher family engagement. HCAP Head Start is committed to caring for its staff, children, and families in a mindful manner. - During Celebrate Babies Week in October, we asked, "what’s one piece of advice you would give to new parents about nurturing their baby’s mental and emotional health?" 💬💗The replies we received were heartwarming and inspirational, and we want to share a few of our favorite replies. --- Celebrate Babies Week shines a light on the critical importance of nurturing the mental and emotional health of our youngest keiki. Early connections and positive experiences lay the foundation for lifelong health and well-being, making it essential for parents and caregivers to have the resources and support they need. At HCF, we believe the well-being and development of children under age 6 is a core component to strengthening Hawai‘i’s communities. The Promising Minds initiative is dedicated to improving early childhood behavioral health in Hawai‘i. - This past Friday, the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation sponsored The Moth Mainstage in Honolulu, an evening of live storytelling at Hawaii Theatre Center from the producers of the popular radio show, education program, and podcast focusing on true, personal stories. We’re still thinking about the stories shared with us that night—each storyteller spoke with such honesty, vulnerability, and genuine curiosity for the human experience. Each heartfelt performance affirmed our belief in the power of stories to connect people and spark change, by shifting our points of view about the world, other people, and even ourselves. We are so grateful to speakers Pono Fernandez, Boots Lupenui, Becky Chan, David Kagulu-Kalema, and Mindy Raf for their courage and conviction in taking the stage to uplift and inspire us. Mahalo also to the producers of the Moth for coming to the Hawai‘i Theatre Center to help share these incredible stories.#TheMoth #Storytelling #HawaiiTheatre #HawaiiCommunity
