As Hurricane Helene moves our of our area, we commemorate the two year anniversary of Hurricane Ian by telling a heartwarming story about one of our caregivers, Sherri Wetherill, director of respiratory services at HCA Florida Englewood Hospital. Her story is of resilience and represents the journey of so many of our caregivers and community members. Sherri found her home damaged significantly after Hurricane Ian passed through Florida. As a colleague at HCA Florida Healthcare, Sherri had access to resources including the Hope Fund which made a difference in her life. Sherri shared, "I honestly don't think that there is any other hospital or organization out there that has done that much for their employees. If I didn't work for HCA, I don't think the outcome would have been the same." The HCA Healthcare Hope Fund is an colleague-run, colleague-supported 501(c)3 charity that provides emergency funds to our colleagues like Sherri, when significant hardships arise due to illness, injury, natural disasters or other difficult situations that impact their essential needs.
