Have you signed up? Join us on at a virtual briefing on November 13, 2024, 12-1 PM ET, where we'll present new, updated life expectancy estimates by census tract for Eastern Massachusetts. This report, poised for funders, policymakers, researchers, non-profit, and community leaders, identifies local disparities, spotlights select cities, and highlights key social factors to consider in health equity work. Plus, our panelists Derek Chapman, Kiame Mahaniah, Mercy A. will share what's happening nationally, statewide, and locally. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eXzTPuvX - Thanks to Compact Board Chair Amie Shei for keeping the focus on health equity. When equity isn’t explicitly considered and prioritized in policy solutions, we risk further marginalizing communities of color as we navigate each crisis. We must address racial health equity directly and integrate it into how Massachusetts addresses the dysfunction of the healthcare market, and set clear guideposts to drive toward health equity (not just healthcare equity) as we reshape the system. We look forward to continuing the conversation at the Health Policy Commission's 2024 Cost Trends Hearing later this week, "From Crisis to Stability: The Path to a More Affordable, Accessible, and Equitable Health Care System".#healthequitynow #mapoli

At the State House News Service/MASSterList "Urgent Treatment: Mass. Health Care After Steward" event earlier this week, there were important conversations about the fragility of the health care system in Massachusetts. David Seltz opened by sharing key takeaways from recent Health Policy Commission analyses, previewing some of the issues to be discussed at the upcoming cost trends hearing. Speakers Lora Pellegrini, Dr. Abha Agrawal, MD, FACP, FACHE, John Fernandez, Steven M. Walsh, and Greg Wilmot shared their thoughts on the most pressing challenges facing us in the Commonwealth in an insightful panel discussion moderated by Chris Lisinski. We cannot just move on post-Steward and assume that the health care system will recover on its own. Instead, we must roll up our sleeves and get to work on addressing challenges with access, affordability, equity, and more. This is a responsibility we must all share. I was glad to be able to ask the final audience question and have the event end on the topic of how we can use this opportunity to advance #healthequity in Massachusetts. It is not always easy to make it into Boston for an early morning event, but it is important to be in the room when health policy discussions happen in order to elevate the priorities and perspectives of The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts and the Health Equity Compact. Worcester T&G coverage by Kinga Borondy: https://lnkd.in/g-PhD34w - Compact leader Rosa M. Colon-Kolacko, PhD. MBA, CDM, SHRM-SCP's reflections on the 2024 Health Equity Trends Summit perfectly encapsulate the energy and commitment that are still radiating from the event in June. We thank Rosa for her unwavering dedication to #HealthEquity and know that, together, we can create a healthier, more equitable future for all. How are you pledging to promote health equity?

I am excited about the success of the second HE Compact 2024 Summit attended yesterday by 700+ leaders. We imagine a world in which race did not determine how long and how well you lived. Gov. Healey reiterated her commitment “ MA is a leader in Healthcare and Life Science—inequities experienced by our communities are unacceptable. We have made equity a priority across the government. We need the will to make it happen” Legislative leaders are passing legislation, and HE reform promoting accountability, improving affordability, and access. We learned how commissioners, secretaries of health, labor, workforce, and economic development are embedding equity. In addition, community partners discussed the importance of co-creating solutions to address the specific needs of neighborhoods and build trust. I feel proud of the progress and Thank You for the hard work to impact the health of people who need us!. I am pledging again my commitment to promote health equity. Please join us! #HETS2024, #HealthEquityNow, #HealthEquityCompact, #AnActToAdvanceHealthEquity - Congratulations to N.A.H.S.E. Learn more & apply: https://lnkd.in/eCJeTGdqPlease help us spread the word! - “As a first-generation immigrant and DACA recipient, I have experienced firsthand how the lack of healthcare access affects immigrant communities. I believe we have a responsibility to advocate for those directly affected by systemic inequities and to think critically about what health equity means to marginalized communities. If you want to call me a dreamer, dream with me, of a future that we are a true Commonwealth that protects all of its residents and gives them a chance to not only survive, but to thrive and live healthy lives." As we conclude Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re highlighting the incredible contributions of Compact member Javier A Juarez. Javier is the Director of the Latino Equity Fund at the The Boston Foundation, the only Latinx-led and Latinx-dedicated community fund in Massachusetts. Under Javier’s leadership, LEF increases philanthropy to organizations throughout the state that focus on increasing economic prosperity, healthcare access, and well-being for the Latinx population. Javier spoke at the “Cover All Kids” Advocacy Day earlier this year in support of An Act to Ensure Equitable Health Coverage for Children, a bill that would expand MassHealth coverage to all income-eligible children, regardless of immigration status. Javier has also supported the collaboration between Health Care For All all and Agencia ALPHA through the MassHealth Redetermination Campaign to help Massachusetts residents maintain their health coverage. In Javier’s words, he is proud to do this pivotal work alongside the Health Equity Compact leadership team and leaders across the state who are making change to improve people’s lives. Javier sees his role at the Compact as bridging community insights with philanthropic partnerships to create meaningful change for communities. As we celebrate #HispanicHeritageMonth, we’re grateful to leaders like Javier, who is leveraging his life experience to break down barriers to healthcare access.
