- Compact members Amie Shei, Claire Cooper Jeffrey Sánchez, MPA, Marty Martinez, Michael Curry, Esq., Nate Horwitz-Willis, and Dr. Assaad Sayah were thrilled to attend the informative and impactful Globe Summit conversation with Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about the state of public health. Attendees heard from Dr. Walensky about pandemic preparedness, health disparities, and public health challenges such as fragmented systems and troubling trends with falling vaccination rates. She emphasized the importance of strengthening the public health and health care pipeline and the imperative to continue taking an evidence-based approach to health. The Compact was proud to join this important health equity conversation and to be a partner in ensuring the health of all Commonwealth residents. Matthew Fishman, Dorosella Green, MS-PREP

I pledge to promote health equity with unwavering commitment. Health equity is not just a goal but a fundamental right. Everyone, regardless of their background, should have access to quality healthcare and the opportunity to lead a healthy life. This commitment is deeply personal to me as I have witnessed firsthand the disparities that marginalized communities face in accessing healthcare services. By promoting health equity, we can bridge these gaps and ensure that all individuals receive the care they need. I will work tirelessly to advocate for policies that reduce health disparities, support initiatives that provide equitable care, and educate communities about their rights and resources. Together, we can build a healthier, fairer world for all.Health Equity Compact - "Conventional expectations are never going to get us to the "unreasonable" outcomes we want to see: to eliminate health inequities. My advice to you is to be unreasonable, see the world that doesn't exist at the moment, and act." - Dr. Elsie Taveras, Chief Community Health and Health Equity Officer, Mass General Brigham and Health Equity Compact leader. Congratulations to Boston Medical Center (BMC) for a powerful and inspiring EQTY 2024: Accelerating Health Justice summit! With a phenomenal opening from Compact member Thea James, and a day full of thought-provoking and energizing panels, we love how the day felt like an extension of the dialogue at our Health Equity Trends Summit. Thanks to all the EQTY speakers for sharing your powerful journeys toward making health equity a reality and demonstrating how to be champions of this critical work.Amie Shei, Chris Reddick, Izzy Lopes, Renee Crichlow MD, FAAFP, Jade Nortey, MPH , Lindsey Tucker
Today we hosted our second EQTY 2024: Accelerating Health Justice summit, a nationwide effort to spark conversation and highlight key disparities in the healthcare system. BMC's Thea James, MD, MPH, MBA, opened by saying “Today, we are here to end the blame game...To shed ourselves, and others, of the mythical notion that poverty and poor health outcomes are a ‘fact’ of Black, Hispanic, and Latino American life.” Fruitful conversation filled the rest of the day around ensuring that decades of structural inequities in health care will no longer dictate the future. Thank you to all speakers and attendees for inspiring justice within healthcare as we all work to build trust, implement practical solutions, and empower our communities.- +3

- In today’s age of #AI, the imperative of racial health equity must be addressed. At our 2024 Health Equity Trends Summit in June, our dynamic panel discussed prioritizing and centering the voices of communities of color in AI and how regulation can ensure that this profit-driven industry can be used to mitigate rather than exacerbate the racial health inequities we aim to address. - As a coalition of 80+ cross-sector leaders of color united in advancing health equity across the Commonwealth, the Health Equity Compact is profoundly concerned about the imminent worsening of health disparities and reduced access to care that will result from the Steward Health Care crisis. We care deeply about the patients, workers, and communities impacted by these hospital closures and transitions. The communities which have historically experienced the least investments in health care resources and social drivers of health are now carrying the greatest burden from this crisis. The Health Equity Compact stands in solidarity with these communities, and our members are ready to bring their professional expertise and lived experiences to support the collective response that will be needed to help these communities rebound.Amie Shei Elsie Taveras, MD, MPH Filaine Deronnette Jeffrey Sánchez, MPA Juan Fernando Lopera Manny Lopes Michael Curry, Esq. Today I’m proud to share that the conference report for a comprehensive bill addressing access to maternal health services has been filed. These photos were taken shortly after the Senate passed its version of the Maternal Health bill and it was so great to witness the excitement from doulas, midwives, and advocates from across the Commonwealth. I look forward to taking up this legislation and getting it to the Governor’s desk soon.
