Lisa and I talked through the Particle Health lawsuit against Epic on yesterday's talk show. And then we made Alex Horowitz tell us what he thinks. Overall- we all think this is a poorly executed stunt that damages trust, but Alex brought up a key point: why hasn't Carequality stepped up to take ownership and restore that trust? I maintain that Particle has the worst communications function our industry has ever seen. A case study in exactly what not to do in a crisis. BUT we talked about OTHER THINGS, TOO! Alex and his team at Intrepid Ascent have been doing big things in California and New York around their respective 1115 waivers, notably working on both the CalDxF AND New York State's SCNs. He also received a live shout out and endorsement from Sara Abrams, MPH of Rochester RHIO and our favorite unpaid correspondent Michael Marchant. Then we had a hard pivot to PERIMENOPAUSE with Laura Okafor, CEO of Perry! Excellent way to close out a show about trusted exchange frameworks! Lisa picked up Laura out at #HLTHEurope in Amsterdam and loved Perry's approach to building community and encouraging education for women in the post-fertility stages of their lives. We chatted with Laura about access to care, MONEY and what we really need to give women the support they need to live happier and healthier lives. IT'S PERIMENOPAUSE AWARENESS MONTH! And god bless our states, especially when they pass laws that align with my personal beliefs. And, obviously, god bless Melissa Denino. - Health Tech Talk Show reposted this

Y’all - this mention by Tim Histalk in Friday’s HIStalk regarding the Health Tech Talk Show is probably the honor of my career. “It’s refreshing not to need to stab the eject button seconds-in on a host who is long on self-importance but short on industry knowledge and a compelling style.”Lisa B. We're talking to Alex Horowitz and Laura Okafor Crain on this Friday's Health Tech Talk Show! And oh, we're definitely going to talk about Particle Health's decision to sue Epic. Dear viewers, we will encourage you to use your brain on that one. This episode is sponsored by Intrepid Ascent! Thank goodness, because without them we would not be able to afford our annual Vimeo subscription and our Amazon best-seller video equipment. Intrepid Ascent is a consulting partner for community health, connecting health care, government, social services, housing, schools, and other sectors to collaborate in serving shared populations. This is the kind of stuff Kat and Lisa are totally into.

What did we learn on yesterday's Health Tech Talk Show with guest host Leslie Kirk?? That U.S. International Development Finance Corporation has lots of money to give and Mathematica will take anyone's money! (also, they don't always do math) (PS Innsena likes invoicing, too) Ok but seriously- cool things being done by both organizations as told to us by Nafisa Jiwani, head of global health investments at U.S. International Development Finance Corporation and Alex Bohl (he/him), senior client partner at Mathematica. Nafisa walked us through some of DFC's most interesting and recent investments in global health -- including manufacturing and distribution infrastructure for MPox--and talked to us about how the agency is set up to move quickly. Fun fact, it is one of the few US federal agencies that provides a return for taxpayers. Yes. Alex talked to us about his team's work in maternal health and all of the work that goes into developing new national benchmarks for progress. Turns out, y'all, data is not easy to get. Good data is REALLY HARD to get. He also told us about his "wirecutter" idea--also presented during #hdpalooza earlier this week, and made a call that some of us just need to do the good work for the greater good to level the playing field for better health. Thank the lord that Melissa Denino, our security blanket and boss, was back. Also possible Michael Marchant and Jim Nasr like the Freedom Health Data Network logo so much that they may or may not be cooking something up. tbd. Tomorrow is the first day of fall! Enjoy, loyal fans. Thank you Maxlyn Kovalchik for the incredible artwork, as always. - Health Tech Talk Show reposted this

Did Micky Tripathi and Aneesh Chopra totally love our #TEFCA rebrand to Freedom Health Data Network? You'll have to watch the full replay of yesterday's Health Tech Talk Show to find out. Lest you, loyal fan, think this episode was only about TEFCAMaxxing, I'll have you know we talked about whether or not mandates work, FHIR, what Micky would have done if TEFCA wasn't required by congress to be implemented, what both of them think about regulating AI, and we got some big history lessons. Turns out Lisa and I aren't the most important people in health data exchange (weird), and that there were are these guys named John Glaser and John Halamka, M.D., M.S. who did a lot of stuff. WHO KNEW? (We did, but that makes the story less fun). Links to the recordings in comments--but you can watch this short clip to watch both Micky and Aneesh say smart things and see Lisa and I get into a fight. We also talked about: - IUDs and whether or not they actually hurt and my conspiracy theories - Susan Clark telling us about the jam in which many women find themselves with regard to mammograms and follow-up ultrasounds - Congrats to Amy Abernethy and team on the launch of Highlander Health- Catholic hospitals continue to not like poor people, via KFF Health News- Neel Shah of Maven Clinic talks about Medicaid moment in maternal health and gave us a good read in his Substack "The Preprint" - And congrats to Aneesh Chopra of Arcadia on his appointment to the National AI Advisory Council by the United States Department of CommerceSee you next Friday, loyal fans!
