Healthcare Realty proudly presents the Engineering Impact Award for the fourth quarter of 2024 to Maintenance Engineer Lewis Montgomery, Maintenance Engineer Carlos Ortiz, and Portfolio Engineer Steven Buntrock of our Arizona team. This intrepid trio stood out for their work on two important projects last quarter. The first of these was in October, when Steven and Carlos installed a new safety railing system on the roof of one of their buildings. By purchasing materials and expertly completing the installation in-house, the total cost was about $40,000 less than the lowest price bid by a vendor. Shortly after that, Lewis determined that the air quality in one of his buildings could be optimized by repositioning its rooftop ventilation piping. He and Steven purchased materials and extended the vent pipes, completing the installation work in one day – a proactive and low-cost approach to ensuring an optimal environment for our medical tenants and their patients. The Engineering Impact Award is presented quarterly to a Healthcare Realty engineer (in this case, three!) whose recent work stands out for initiative, cost savings, project difficulty, and going above and beyond. Every other month, Healthcare Realty hosts a company-wide wellness challenge for our employees. Each optional challenge is a fun opportunity to bring our geographically diverse colleagues together, focusing on our health and wellness, building camaraderie, and earning special incentives. One recent wellness challenge, called “Stepping Up for a Good Cause,” invited employees to join one of four teams and compete to see which team could log the highest average per-person step count for the month. One of the prizes the winning team earned was the opportunity to help direct a portion of Healthcare Realty’s 2024 charitable giving. The 20 members of the winning team, comprised of employees from all over the country, voted to select American Cancer Society to receive a 5,000donationfromHealthcareRealty.Thetotalroseto5,000 donation from Healthcare Realty. The total rose to 5,000donationfromHealthcareRealty.Thetotalroseto5,345, after several members from all four teams opted to forego their individual prize in favor of adding its value to the donation. It is especially rewarding to recognize those who have built their careers with us over the long term. This month, we are honored to recognize the 25-year employment anniversary of Office Manager Ken Lovett. Ken’s first day with Healthcare Realty was January 3, 2000, in the role of Administrative Services Coordinator at our Nashville corporate office. Since 2018, he has held the role of Office Manager at our corporate headquarters, keeping everything running smoothly with his extraordinary organizational skills, multi-tasking focus, and characteristic warmth. We asked Becca Oberlander, First Vice President – Human Resources, about Ken’s contributions. She said, “It’s hard keeping up with Ken since he’s always thinking three steps ahead! The need for blood for life-saving medical treatments is constant – but blood donations tend to wane during winter months, due to holidays, seasonal illness, and inclement weather. Blood cannot be manufactured in a lab – the only source of this vital product is donors. At Healthcare Realty, we’re doing our part by hosting blood drives this month at seven of our buildings around the country. Our property management teams in Seattle, Scottsdale, Nashville, Indianapolis, Denver, Huntersville, and Charlotte are working to recruit donors now to make a meaningful impact and support the nation’s critically low blood supply.
