- At ESMO - European Society for Medical Oncology, Highlander Health Cofounder Amy Abernethy presented on the main stage with Professor Jakob Nikolas Kather from Dresden, on “How AI will Transform Cancer Care.” The pair discussed how AI solutions are quickly translating to meaningful biomarkers ready for use in the clinic, novel drug discovery, and efficiencies in the clinic. Leveraging progressively more complex multimodal datasets, sophisticated algorithms can predict the response probability for a certain patient to a certain treatment, and ease complex decision-making for oncologists. However, in order to scale AI in oncology, we need: speedy, streamlined evaluation of algorithms; regulatory clarity; and, practical education for clinicians. The team left Barcelona energized, and hopeful that AI will help transition the many new innovative treatments to personalized application in the clinic.
