Updates
- HII recently welcomed guests from the U.S. Navy’s Program Executive Office Unmanned & Small Combatants (PEO USC) and its Unmanned Maritime Systems program office (PMS 406) to our Unmanned Systems manufacturing facility in Pocasset, Massachusetts. CAPT Matt Lewis, Program Manager; CDR Ryan Hilger, Deputy Program Manager; Rick Hammond, and Cheryl Mierzwa toured our versatile production space, observing the manufacturing process for REMUS unmanned underwater vehicles. The reconfigurable facility is scalable to allow simultaneous production of various models of the REMUS UUV family of systems, ranging from the REMUS 100, 130, and 300 portable vehicles to the latest REMUS 620 fully modular medium-class high endurance vehicle. The visit wrapped up with our traditional wall signing, commemorating a memorable day of technological exchange and collaborative discussions. - The U.S. Navy’s Lionfish next-generation small unmanned underwater vehicle (SUUV) has successfully completed test readiness review and production readiness review, marking the start of full-rate production. "The Lionfish program demonstrates the power of leveraging commercial technology to solve operational challenges at speed and scale,” said Duane Fotheringham, president of HII Mission Technologies' Unmanned Systems business group. “This milestone not only represents a technical achievement, but also our dedication to equipping our forces with the most advanced tools in record time." These milestones come just one year after contract award, showcasing the rapid progress and close collaboration between PMS 408 and HII in delivering cutting-edge underwater capabilities to our fleet. - Ryan Maddock and Megan Schuette, staff members for U.S. Rep. Bill Keating (D-Mass.), visited HII’s production facility in Pocasset, Massachusetts, on Sept. 3. "Engaging with Congressional staff is crucial for showcasing how our innovative unmanned systems protect national security," said Duane Fotheringham, president of HII Mission Technologies' Unmanned Systems business unit. "Visits like this highlight the real-world impact of our work, from advancing marine research with NOAA to bolstering our nation's defense capabilities." Fotheringham and members of the UxS team discussed recent milestones, including HII’s delivery of two REMUS 620s to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). To commemorate their visit, Maddock and Schuette signed the visitor wall with a message to the team. Learn more about the recent REMUS 620 delivery here: https://lnkd.in/eUVTED65

HII remembers the lives that were lost during an unspeakable act of terrorism on our great nation more than two decades ago. Wednesday marks 23 years since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, that resulted in the loss of thousands of lives. USS New York (#LPD21), built by Ingalls Shipbuilding, a Division of HII, was constructed using approximately seven tons of steel salvaged from the former twin towers of the World Trade Center. Two other Ingalls-built ships, USS Arlington (#LPD24) and USS Somerset (#LPD25), are named to honor the victims of 9/11 and incorporate steel from the other sites of the attacks. Today, these ships all sail to carry out our mission of protecting peace and freedom around the world. May we #NeverForget. - HII's Mission Technologies, a division of HII has successfully completed factory acceptance at sea testing and delivered two REMUS 620 uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs) on time to NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration for high-resolution ocean floor mapping. The REMUS 620 is a pioneering medium-class UUV offering comprehensive above- and below-water capabilities. In 22 months the vehicle has gone from concept design, to an operational prototype, and now delivery of two production units to a customer. The on-time delivery to NOAA highlights HII's commitment to delivering cutting edge products at the speed of relevance to our customers. “The REMUS 620 is a true next generation medium class UUV (MUUV). Our team has developed the most versatile and low maintenance MUUV that exists today, stated Rick Kollanda, Unmanned Systems Senior Manager of Undersea Warfare, Special Warfare, and MUUV Program Manager. “We’ve incorporated 20+ years of operational experience to build a vehicle to be proud of and reliably serve our customers for years to come.” The NOAA REMUS 620s feature customized enhancements, including advanced sonar and energy modules, tailored for NOAA's crucial underwater mapping and habitat restoration missions in the Gulf of Mexico. More than 600 REMUS UUVs have been sold globally and are in operation in more than 30 countries, including 14 NATO members. Over 90% of the vehicles delivered over the past 23 years are still operational today. Read more in HII’s newsroom: https://lnkd.in/eUVTED65

Less than two years after design efforts began, HII continues testing the third generation of its medium-class unmanned undersea vehicle (MUUV), the REMUS 620. In recent sea trials, conducted on Aug. 14 in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, a REMUS 620 successfully completed a mission outfitted with a KRAKEN MINSAS 120 Synthetic Aperture Sonar, delivering high-resolution imagery of a mission target. “We gained a lot of valuable operational data using the KRAKEN MINSAS 120,” said Adrian Gonsalves, lead engineer for the REMUS 620. “These sea tests, combined with our extensive use of hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop simulations, allowed us to greatly accelerate the continuous improvements to this third generation MUUV.” HII’s Mission Technologies, a division of HII will deliver the first two production REMUS 620s to a customer later this month. HII is proud that two of HII’s advanced capabilities — the Virginia-class submarine USS Delaware (SSN 791), built by Newport News Shipbuilding, A Division of HII, and the REMUS medium unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV), built by HII Unmanned Systems — will be operationally deployed together to enhance the mission capabilities of the US Navy. The Yellow Moray system, which facilitates the end-to-end submarine torpedo tube launch and recovery of a REMUS UUV from Virginia-class submarines, is a game-changer, significantly boosting the operational capabilities of the U.S. Navy's submarines and their contributions to our nation's unified combatant commands worldwide. At HII, we are honored to continue our partnership with the U.S. Navy, increasing national security through the innovative integration of our manned and unmanned systems. Together, we are driving advancements that ensure the safety and effectiveness of our armed forces. 📝Story via Naval News by Dr Lee Willett https://lnkd.in/eyS4Z_fr - HII Unmanned Systems reposted this
HII Mission Technologies took part in a table-top exercise organized by the Hudson Institute and the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) the week of July 1.
