We are excited to announce the launch of physical progress on the Lake Charles HUD Choice Neighborhoods Initiative. Last Wednesday we held the groundbreaking for the 46-unit Mid-City Lofts where demolition began for the adjacent 38-acre Lloyd Oaks former public housing site. We had a great turnout despite the rain including Mayor Nic Hunter, LCHA Executive Director Ben Taylor, Calcasieu Parish Police Juror Brian Abshire, LA OCD Housing Director Kelvin Hill, LHC Chief of Multifamily Production Louis Russell, Community Foundation of SWLA CEO Sara Judson and First Horizon Bank Lake Charles Market President Steven Perez) and over 100 family, friends, and previous residents. We are excited to see the physical progress begin as we continue to support the growth of the Lake Charles community.

HRI Communities is very excited to announce that we closed financing on Mid-City Lofts (MCL) in Lake Charles, LA. MCL is a 46-unit, mixed-income, resilient apartment building that represents two very important "Firsts": 1) MCL is the first housing phase of the HUD Choice Neighborhoods Initiative (CNI) in Lake Charles in partnership with the City, the Lake Charles Housing Authority, Urban Strategies, Inc, Integrand and dozens of other stakeholders. The CNI undertaking is of critical importance to SW Louisiana's economic development objectives and recovery from Hurricanes Laura and Delta. 2) MCL is the first project to close under the Louisiana Housing Corporation's PRIME-3 CDBG-DR resiliency program. We would like to thank our financial partners, First Horizon Bank, Hope Federal Credit Union and LHC! We would also like to thank Project Build a Future, a local housing focused non-profit, that is a co-owner of MCL with us. Now it is time for RNGD (a Palmisano Company) to start construction, which is scheduled to be completed next Fall.

Last week, we teamed up with our partners HRI Properties and SWLA Economic Development Alliance to host a local subcontractor outreach event for Mid City Lofts, a mixed-income property set to break ground in Calcasieu Parish and kick off first housing phase of the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative by HRI. Thank you to everyone who came out to learn more about working on this exciting project that will redefine the housing landscape in Lake Charles.
