Several months of planning and it was the D-day today for Data Forum 2024. Opening keynote from Kirsten Dalboe set the stage with her candid insights on the challenges of CDO community and the initiatives in place to address those. Loved what she said about improving customer experience with better data collection. Panel with Jesus J Caban, PhD, Pavan Pidugu and Patrick Newbold brought home the point that whether it is traveling to space or buses and trucks on the road or health mission, the challenges are very similar. Each of them emphasized on the importance of relationships with folks on the ground doing the work and need for agility and mindset to work like a startup. AI panel with some of my favorite leaders - Kevin Duvall, MSMIT, Sweta Ladwa, MPH, PMP, Anil (Neil) C. and Chidilim (Chi) O. was an absolute blast. I loved every minute of moderating this panel and soaking in the insights they all shared. There is always more to learn every time you listen to this group. Several other panels and chats throughout the morning. And the program ended with a super lively discussion with Belinda Seto moderated by Bobby Saxon, SES (Ret.). Belinda is absolutely a joy to listen to and her insights and approaches always underscores that big things happen with simple starts like ‘being curious’. Was greatly inspired to join NIH’s All of Us program. Thank you American Council for Technology - Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) Carol Miller Todd Hager Gillian Wallace Shweta Mulcare Anil (Neil) C. Sweta Ladwa, MPH, PMP and all the volunteers for helping make this happen. Enjoyed attending this fabulous event with my ICF family Rebecca Mulvaney Kim McCarley Carrie Feord Leen Zada Amanda Eamich Rachel Newman- +7

- Continuing our observance of National Public Lands Day on September 28, today we’re highlighting our support of California’s newest State Park–Dos Rios State Park. Located at the confluence of the San Joaquin and Tuolumne Rivers outside of Modesto California, Dos Rios is also a junction of nature and culture. Dos Rios is in a region of California with rapid population growth but limited public open space. It has been touted as “a park of the future” because it doesn’t simply preserve nature or history–but is actively restoring habitat and people’s connections to it. The park is home to a native-use garden, where Indigenous people can gather and tend culturally significant plants without permits or harassment. The park is an active landscape managed through both modern and traditional means. We worked closely with California State Parks to develop 5 bilingual (English and Spanish) interpretive panels to share natural and cultural history stories with Dos Rios Park visitors from across California. The exhibits interpret local flora and fauna, as well as the Parks critical location within the Pacific Flyway, the role of newly restored wetland and riparian habitat in climate resilience, and how water management is the driving force behind this parks’ ecological success and flood safety for nearby communities.
- Freshwater mussels are nature’s hidden environmental heroes, working to restore and protect our rivers. At the Willamette River Festival in Eugene, Oregon, Laura, PNW Fisheries and Aquatics Team Lead, and Joshua, Stormwater Specialist, showcased their studies with the Willamette Riverkeeper on how restoration and protection efforts benefit both freshwater mussels and river health. This non-profit is dedicated to safeguarding Oregon’s great Willamette River. Together we’re creating a ripple effect for environmental health. Ready to make an impact? National Public Lands Day is on September 28 and serves as a time to honor and promote the conservation of our nation’s beautiful and diverse public lands, encouraging volunteerism and environmental stewardship. In celebration of this observance, we’re proud to share our partnership with the California Department of Water Resources to help demonstrate the dynamic ecosystem of the Suisun Marsh. Our team developed a traditional brochure-style print public access guide and a web-based interactive story map. The guides interpret stories of the marsh’s rich cultural and natural history and present public access opportunities including fishing, boating, hiking, and interpretive opportunities on public lands throughout the marsh. The interactive story map immerses viewers in the marsh’s abundant resources through rich narrative, embedded photography and video, and multiple forms of interactive mapping, including a playable interface demonstrating California’s water infrastructure from the headwaters of the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers to the San Francisco Bay Delta and to communities dependent on this vital resource. Learn more about Suisun Marsh and check out the StoryMap: https://okt.to/ByRQUZ
