About us
The American Society of Landscape Architects was organized in 1899 as the first professional organization for landscape architects. Today, almost 18,000 landscape architects in public, private and academic practice nationwide are members of the ASLA. Illinois has one of the largest chapters of ASLA in the nation with more than 500 members. The profession of landscape architecture is a licensed profession in the State of Illinois. To achieve licensure and the privilege to use the title "Landscape Architect" most licensed landscape architects have completed a minimum of a four year professional degree program, which is accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board in landscape architecture. Most registered landscape architects have taken and passed the Landscape Architecture Review Examination (LARE), a national test administered by the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards.

- Congratulations to the Illinois Chapter's new Fellow, Bradley McCauley! Brad was nominated in the Leadership Management Category Brad’s journey of leadership began in his formative years, influenced by his mentor, Ernie Wong, the Founding Principal of site. Brad dedicated himself to volunteering, logging nearly 50 hours a year for organizations such as the American Cancer Society and Wish Upon A Star, instilling in him the profound impact of giving of himself to help others. Brad’s exemplary leadership continued at the Illinois Chapter of ASLA, where, shortly after graduating from the University of Illinois in Urbana- Champaign, he assumed the role of Chair of Internal Communications and Membership Chair. His subsequent role as President in 2015 revealed his adeptness at consensus building and the critical role of membership in achieving success. His commitment to elevating others led to his election as Trustee for two terms. During his tenure as Trustee, Brad was further involved at the national level as an active member of the Member Services and Finance and Investment Committees, which reinforced his belief that members bring value to the organization through thought, works, and revenue, while in turn, members receive value through resources, platform, and voice. Brad’s dedication persisted as he assumed the role of Vice President of Membership for ASLA at the national level. His tenure saw him spearheading vital initiatives such as onboarding the new CEO, collaborating on strategic plans, and facilitating the Climate Action Plan. Brad’s efforts, demonstrated throughout his career from the local to the national levels, have not only positively impacted thousands in the Landscape Architecture profession, but have also set a remarkable standard for selfless leadership. Meet the other 39 Fellows being elevated this year. https://lnkd.in/gaR7BRfq
