We are actively #hiring! Know anyone who might be interested? - Today, October 10th, is World Mental Health Day. This year IHC hired its first Director of Behavioral Health, Lindsay Kasey. Lindsay shared with us her reflections on World Mental Health Day: Today we celebrate World Mental Health Day, first recognized globally in 1992 as an opportunity to celebrate the often overlooked intense labor of mental health workers, promote mental health advocacy and validate the existence of mental health disorders to decrease stigma and bring further awareness. If we are honest, we recognize that 32 years later, we still have a lot of work to do to promote the work and to reduce the stigma that impacts more than an individual’s ability to ask for help. We continue to see mental health underfunded and overlooked in schools, government, by healthcare insurers, workplaces and in media we consume. We have a lot of work left to do AND as a mental health provider of 20 years I can say that there is so much encouragement in how far we have come. One of the most important shifts in mental health work has been an increasing acceptance of substance use treatment as part of mental health. Historically the two were parsed out into two separate categories as if one was not directly related to the other. With decades of research and personal accounts of devastation from the opioid epidemic, the linkages between mental health disorders, substance use, social drivers of health and overall physical well-being cannot be denied. These realities mean that if we are providers of patient-centered healthcare we are providers for all the pieces that determine whole-person health. The good news is that no organization will not address all of these person-centered needs on our own. The increased focus of mental health in Indiana’s legislature has led to significant investment into the transformation of Community Mental Health Centers into Certified Community Behavior Health Clinic model which has the potential to enhance internal collaboration, seamless access to crisis services and enhanced substance treatment in underserved areas. IHC is dedicated to the strengthening of our relationship with CCBHCs and recovery providers to provide an experience for our patients that offers the highest quality of care, seamless and dignified hand offs to services and a closed loop of support. This World Mental Health day I am celebrating the bravery and vulnerability of individuals, family members, and friends of those who have suffered from mental health and substance use struggles. Folks who continue to tell us stories that hold immense pain so that there may be movement in policy, practice and personal interactions that will make it better or easier for others. I am celebrating the organizational collaborations that we have now and the innovations on the horizon that can get us to a place where we are working together to be sure the whole-person dignified care is not a luxury to some, but available to all.
- We'd like to take a moment and congratulate our Deputy Chief Dental Officer, Dr. Jerra Sharp-Williams, on her completion of the National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA) Oral Health Leadership Institute. Dr. Sharp-Williams participated in the 12-month program with other dental leaders from across the country. Thank you, Dr. Sharp-Williams, for your outstanding leadership and dedication to IHC and its patients!

- More than 8.8 million children in the United States receive primary care from a Community Health Center. We are proud to offer pediatric care at all of our IHC locations, including well-child and sick visits and standard vaccinations.
- We were honored to host South Bend Mayor James Mueller at IHC Michigan Street today, where we discussed National Health Centers, the importance of community health centers, and IHC's commitment to South Bend. Thank you for your time and support, Mayor Mueller. We appreciate your visit!
- Stakeholder Appreciation Day Thanks to a continuous emphasis on delivering patient-centered care that results in positive outcomes, Community Health Centers have received bipartisan political support for more than 50 years. Although the Health Center Program originated at the federal level, widespread legislative support for Community Health Centers exists across state and local governments as well. Building a stronger, more sustainable Community Health Center movement is dependent upon continuous engagement with stakeholders at all levels of policy. We would like to take a moment to thank Michael Myers from Congressman Larry Buschon's office and Congresswoman Erin Houchin for spending time with us this week and discussing the importance of community health centers, 340b, and rural healthcare. We'd also like to thank all of the other representatives who support CHCs nationwide, especially here in Indiana. We couldn't serve without your support - thank you! #NHCW24 #ValueCHCs #FQHC
- For the first time in history, Community Health Centers served more than 31.5 million patients in 2023. A legacy more than 60 years in the making, the Community Health Center movement began as a journey of building power among people within their unique communities. Today, Community Health Centers represent the largest network of primary care providers in America. Community Health Centers serve 1 in 11 people in the U.S. including: 1 in 9 children and adolescents 1 in 4 racial and ethnic minorities 1 in 6 Medicaid beneficiaries 1 in 5 uninsured persons 1 in 3 people in poverty Additionally, federal legislation requires that at least 51% of Community Health Center board members be patients at the health centers they represent. Board members volunteer their time and expertise to be a voice for those served by the health center. IHC has an incredible Board of Directors and eight Community Involvement Committees (CICs) that we rely heavily upon for governance, planning, and support. Today and every day we celebrate and appreciate those patients and community members who believe in our mission and support our work.
