Jhpiego is a nonprofit global leader in the creation and delivery of transformative health care solutions for the developing world. In partnership with national governments, health experts and local communities, we build health providers’ skills, and develop systems that save lives now and guarantee healthier futures for women and their families. Our aim is revolutionizing health care for the planet’s most disadvantaged people. Jhpiego, a Johns Hopkins University Affiliate, translates decades of program experience and in-depth technical knowledge into moments of care that can mean the difference between life and death for women and families. The moment a woman gives birth; the moment a midwife helps a newborn to breath; the moment a nurse screens for cervical cancer with a simple vinegar swab; the moment a community health worker tests a man for HIV and reports he is HIV free. By embedding the know-how and skills into everyday practice, we are able to increase access to quality health services and create a healthier future for generations to come. When Kouame, a taxi driver from Cote D’Ivoire, started feeling what he thought were severe symptoms of Covid-19 he decided to visit his local health clinic. Mrs. Dorcas, who assessed Kouame was able to diagnose him with tuberculosis caused by an underlying disease—HIV, starting Kouame on treatment right away. Vandana lost her husband within a year of marriage when she was two and half months pregnant with her son and felt directionless. That is until her father-in-law persuaded her to become an ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist). As part of the Cervical Cancer Elimination Initiative, Jhpiego is committed to supporting countries on their path to eliminating cervical cancer as a public health issue. 🩺👩 In alignment with the WHO’s 90-70-90 targets—90% of girls vaccinated, 70% of women screened, and 90% of women with precancer treated, our efforts include: 💉 HPV vaccination initiatives in Pakistan and other countries. 🔬 Piloting HPV self-sampling and molecular testing for cervical cancer screening in Burkina Faso, Guatemala, and the Philippines. 📈 Scaling up secondary prevention strategies with HPV testing and thermal ablation for treatment in nine countries. By addressing both primary and secondary prevention, Jhpiego is helping nations improve vaccine coverage and enhance treatment pathways for precancerous lesions, ultimately working towards a future where cervical cancer no longer poses a global health threat.
