Junior Achievement Mission The mission of Junior Achievement (JA) is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Using hands-on experiences, JA helps to prepare young people for the real world by teaching skills in financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurship. Junior Achievement trains community volunteers to deliver curricula, and to incorporate the sharing of personal and professional experiences with students. The hallmark of Junior Achievement efforts, these mentors inspire students by transforming the JA lessons into relevant messages that connect what is learned in the classroom to real-world situations.

Yesterday, Junior Achievement of Greater Boston celebrated the grand opening of our 2nd JA Innovation Center at Lawrence High School! This state-of-the-art space will reshape the future for young innovators, creators, and entrepreneurs in the community. The Center was made possible through the collaboration of Lawrence Public Schools, Lawrence High School, and the generous support of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the RICHARD AND SUSAN SMITH FAMILY FOUNDATION, Staples, and many other invaluable partners. A special thank you to Studio G Architects, Inc. for their remarkable pro bono design work and to Elevated Thought for the stunning, hand-painted art that brings the center's facade to life. The JA Innovation Center at LHS will empower students to explore diverse career paths, acquire technical skills, and foster a growth mindset. With state-of-the-art tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics, and embroidery machines, students will have the resources to transform their ideas into reality. Moreover, this center will serve as an extension of Lawrence High’s pathways and electives, providing hands-on learning experiences, opportunities for collaboration, and mentorship to help students launch their own businesses in Lawrence. This center represents more than just a physical space—it is a community-driven hub that unlocks limitless potential. We are thrilled to witness the future leaders, innovators, and changemakers it will undoubtedly inspire! As a proud Lawrencian, it was a true honor to open the Junior Achievement of Greater Boston Innovation Center @ Lawrence High School yesterday. In partnership with Lawrence Public Schools and Lawrence High School, this beautiful space complete with state-of-the-art technology will expose the bright students at Lawrence High School and across the City to Junior Achievement’s transformational curricula in career exploration, entrepreneurial thinking and financial literacy. Thank you to Studio G Architects, Inc. for designing the center pro bono, Elevated Thought for hand-painting the beautiful façade, the Massachusetts Department of Early and Secondary Education, the Massachusetts Legislature, RICHARD AND SUSAN SMITH FAMILY FOUNDATION, Staples and many others for their investment in the bright young people of Lawrence. "As an intern at Gemline, I worked across every department in the facility, gaining firsthand knowledge of how a global company operates. From manufacturing processes to strategic business operations, this experience gave me a comprehensive view of business that I wouldn't have gotten in the classroom alone." This week, we're proud to feature Adrian Diaz, a Business major at Middlebury College and a recent Global Supply Chain Management Intern at Gemline. Through his internship, Adrian gained critical insights and skills that are shaping his path forward. We're grateful for corporate partners like Gemline, who not only support our mission but also provide JA alumni with enriching internships. We're proud to introduce Anthony Nguyen, a rising sophomore majoring in Computer Science at Tufts University, as our #jaalumnispotlight this week! Tony was a software engineer intern at Staples, gaining valuable real-world experience while applying his passion for coding. This summer, Tony worked with Java Spring Boot. He shared, "I'm working with Java Springboot to enhance B2B onboarding and implementation flows for a web application system that manages Staples' leased assets." This week's #JAalumnispotlight goes to Inji Cineas! Inji (center of the picture) is a rising sophomore at the University of Virginia, where she’s pursuing her academic and career goals with dedication and passion. Over the summer, she took on the role of an accounting intern at Nimbus Therapeutics, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in the world of finance. “I'm currently learning how to run different accounting processes, reconciliation work of finances, and auditing, which gives me a big advantage as I head into my accounting classes this fall.” We’re proud to celebrate her achievements and can’t wait to see the great things she’ll continue to accomplish! Junior Achievement of Greater Boston is honored to welcome Smaiyra Million as the new Chair of the Board of Directors! Smaiyra has distinguished herself through her strategic, innovative, and operational expertise, as well as her advocacy for women, particularly women-led businesses. She has been a dedicated Board member since 2020. Currently, she serves as an Industry Fellow/Faculty Director for numerous Executive Education programs at Babson College. Until recently, she had also served as Executive Director of the Arthur M. Blank Center for Entrepreneurship at Babson. Prior to joining Babson, Smaiyra was an award-winning CEO and partner in a private equity firm. We are excited about her leadership as we work to close the wealth and opportunity gaps for youth in our seven impact communities: Boston, Chelsea, Lawrence, Lowell, Lynn, Quincy, and Somerville. A special thank you to our past Board Chair, George Moore, for his steadfast support, dedication to our mission, and passion for the youth we serve over the past two years.
