About us

KIPP, the Knowledge Is Power Program, is a national network of free, open enrollment college preparatory public schools. There are 255 KIPP schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia, educating more than 110,000 students with more than 15,000 KIPP alumni currently attending college. Nationally, KIPP alumni are graduating from college at 3x the rate of their peers. KIPP Columbus, the only set of KIPP schools in Ohio, was founded in 2008 with 50 students in the 5th grade and now educates more than 2,000 students infant - 12th grade. KIPP Columbus continues to rank as one of the top five schools for academic growth of any school in the state of Ohio, and is a top performing urban school in the state for academic growth. In our first and second classes of graduating high school seniors in the spring of 2020 and 2021, 100% of students were accepted to college and/or military with over $30 million in merit scholarships from colleges and universities earned. Together with families and the community, KIPP creates joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose -- college, career, and beyond.

This year, our network of KIPP schools gathered for an exciting conference that brought together passionate educators and leaders from across the nation for three days of reflection, learning, and celebration! Grounded in the belief that we serve Every Student ✨ Every School ✨ Every Day ✨, the event was a powerful reminder of our shared mission to provide a joyful, academically excellent, and identity-affirming education for all KIPPsters. As we celebrated KIPP Public Schools' 30th anniversary, we reconnected with old friends, forged new connections, and focused on the valuable work ahead. As an organization, we drive toward a balance between the needs of our students, families, and staff. We offer an adjusted schedule with students starting at 8:00 am and ending at 3:30 pm Monday-Thursday and 1:00 pm on Fridays. Our school year runs from mid-August to the end of May. The shorter days give students more opportunities to engage in after-school activities.
