About us
Launch is a growing public charter school currently serving 6th-8th grade students from Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights, and surrounding areas in Brooklyn. We believe that every child deserves a high-quality education and that every child should be prepared to succeed in college. At Launch, we believe that students learn best by doing. Working with our institutional partner, NYC Outward Bound Schools, Launch prepares students not only to succeed in the classroom, but to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. Launch students will never be asked to simply recite memorized information. Instead, students investigate relevant subject matter, work in the field alongside experts, and present what they have learned in order to demonstrate depth of understanding to their peers, teachers, and parents in various fields of study. This kind of real-world learning invests students in their communities, teaches them the values of leadership and service, and prepares them for success in school, college, citizenship and life. “This kind of innovative school…is an example of how all our schools should be.” —President Obama after visiting an Expeditionary Learning school in Washington D.C. Our Mission Launch students will develop the academic skills and strength of character necessary to thrive in college, contribute to their community, and excel in their careers. Our Vision Launch Expeditionary Learning Charter School was created to serve a singular purpose: to offer a world-class education to students and families living in Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights, and surrounding communities – one that will provide Launch students access to the most competitive universities and careers, allowing them to lead fulfilling lives of choice and purpose. We focus on engaging and rigorous instruction and strong character. We support the growth of smart, good people.

This past week, I had the opportunity to attend the Schools AI Collaborative convening, representing Launch Expeditionary Learning Charter School with Evan Kilgore and Matthew Orio. Hosted by The Learning Accelerator and Leading Educators, the collaborative brought together educators, innovators, and leaders to explore the transformative potential of AI in education. The experience left me inspired, reflective, and curious for what's ahead. Here are some of my main takeaways: 1️⃣ Being in a room full of educators and changemakers is energizing! The optimism and drive to reshape education felt contagious. 2️⃣ AI isn’t just about tools—it’s about equity and imagination. We have to be mindful about how we deploy AI, especially in under-resourced communities. AI can amplify learning, but we need to ensure that all students have the opportunity and access to imagine BIG with it. 3️⃣ AI should support teachers, not overwhelm them. It’s not about making teachers 10x more productive, but about making their jobs more meaningful, joyful, and sustainable. 4️⃣ We need to prioritize and push for Sustainability! While AI has the potential to transform education, we cannot ignore the significant environmental footprint associated with its development and deployment. From the energy consumption of large data centers to the resources required to power AI systems, we need to be transparent with our communities about the current environmental costs. As educators, it’s our responsibility to lead the conversation and advocate for climate-friendly AI solutions that align with the sustainability values we teach in our classrooms.#AIEducation #EdTech #SchoolsAICollaborative #RunwayGreen #EquityAndImagination - 🚀 Celebrating LAUNCH’s Role in the AI Collaborative! 🗓 The Launch team has been thrilled to join other forward-thinking educators for three days of collaborative learning around AI in education!
