- Kathy Epley, RN, 4 South, is this month’s DAISY Foundation Award recipient! The DAISY Award is given to exceptional nurses in healthcare who provide their patients with premier care and compassion. "I was in excruciating pain. I was scared and became depressed. Kathy let me know she had been there, and she convinced me that I could get through what I was facing. Every time I saw her, she encouraged me and, basically, held me together. I am on the mend. However, it is not an exaggeration to say that I don't know if I would have made it without her support. I was very fragile during those toughest hours. She was truly an angel sent from heaven." Congratulations, Kathy, and thank you for all that you do at Liberty Hospital! Go to libertyhospital.org to learn more about how you can nominate an exceptional nurse for the DAISY Award.
- Today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we celebrate the life and legacy of a visionary who dreamed of a world where justice, equality, and love prevailed. His wisdom and courage continue to inspire us to stand up for what is right, uplift one another, and work toward a future where all people are truly free.
- More snow last night capped off an historic weather week that could have severely challenged our services. However, several team members rose to the occasion to ensure patients had access to the very best care by coming in early, taking on extra shifts, staying overnight at the hospital or local hotels, and supporting co-workers' transportation needs. We are sincerely grateful to all of you and salute the great work of our grounds crew to clear driving and parking areas across campus.
- Congratulations Dr. Amy Patel for being named to the steering committee for the American Cancer Society National Breast Cancer Rountable. We applaud your commitment to women's health and continued participation in conversations about breast cancer at a national level.

This year's DAISY Foundation Team Award goes to the incredible nurses on our PCU – 3 South floor. The DAISY Award honors exceptional nurses who provide outstanding care and compassion to their patients. One recent patient shared their gratitude, saying: "I would like to thank the staff and management of 3 South for the excellent care my father and mother received. The level of compassion and professionalism was extraordinary." Another patient expressed their appreciation, stating: "I want to thank everyone for the exceptional care I received during my recent stay in the PCU. Every nurse and care tech made me feel like I was their only patient. While I know that wasn’t the case, their compassion, promptness, and genuine concern for my well-being exceeded my expectations. - Katherine McAllister, RN, 3E (T3), is this month’s DAISY Foundation Award recipient! The DAISY Award is given to exceptional nurses in healthcare who provide their patients with premier care and compassion. "It’s refreshing when you meet a healthcare professional who combines natural abilities and personal traits with the skills of the trade. Katherine McAllister is one of those rare and special individuals. It is because of the care she provided that I want to nominate her for the DAISY Award. To recap and further explain why I am nominating Katherine, she was always proactive, not reactive, to any situation. Her follow-up to requests and situations was exceptional. Her calm and reassuring demeanor never changed. In talking with me, I could see her knowledge of my situation, her dedication to her patients and her job, along with her expertise in the cardiac field. She combined all of that with a terrific blend of personal traits, including showing empathy, projecting an honest, genuine caring and trustworthy approach, and having an open, outgoing personality that makes it easy to connect with her." Congratulations, Katherine, and thank you for all that you do at Liberty Hospital!
