Make-A-Wish® Arizona is proud to be the state where Make-A-Wish®, the international 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded. Started in 1980 with one Arizona boy’s wish to be a police officer, our Chapter evolved into a dedicated community of volunteers, donors and Arizona families who have worked together to grant more than 6,500 wishes to date. We continue to be trailblazers, with a goal to grant more wishes in Arizona for Arizona children with critical illnesses each fiscal year. We support the Make-A-Wish mission: Together, we create life-changing wishes for Arizona children with critical illnesses. Michael Hilburn, VP of Event Development and Production for the Arizona Diamondbacks, has joined the Make-A-Wish Arizona board. 🌟 He leads Arizona Diamondbacks Events and Entertainment (ADEE), responsible for Chase Field. Hilburn first led event operations and production upon joining in 2018, adding responsibility for event sales, booking, and promotion in 2021. He focuses on utilizing the ballpark in unique ways that create lifelong memories for guests.

We love seeing local partnerships in action! 💙 In July, the Peoria Subaru of America team joined forces with the Make-A-Wish® Arizona chapter to create custom airport signs for wish kids heading off on their dream trips. From Hawaii to NYC and many places in between, our wish kids were celebrated before traveling in July and August — and these signs added an extra touch of joy for the journeys ahead. A huge thank you to Peoria Subaru for helping make these wish send-offs so special. Together, we’re spreading hope and joy to children with critical illnesses, one trip at a time.
This Veteran's Day, we’re highlighting the power of a wish. 🛩️ Meet Isacc, 15, whose wish of becoming a fighter pilot came true! After watching Top Gun, Isacc became obsessed with airplanes and has dreamed of joining the Air Force ever since.⁠ ⁠ While he’s no stranger to flying fighter jets in video games, his wish to be an honorary fighter pilot was a day he’ll never forget.⁠ “Seeing everything up close was amazing. The coolest part was sitting in the F-35A cockpit!” – Isacc ⁠ Thanks to the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke Air Force Base, Isacc was treated to a guided tour of the 61st Fighter Squadron and the F-35A Lightning II. ⁠ ⁠ Isacc picked the call sign "Axe-Man" (because he loves to play guitar 🎸) and even received his very own flight suit! He put his gaming skills to the test in an F-16 Fighting Falcon simulator. ✈️⁠ ⁠ This #VeteransDay, you can help other kids like Isacc’s dreams take flight. In June, Natalie Schwimer, SHRM-SCP, Chief People Officer for Early Warning®, was appointed as the Board Chair for Make-A-Wish® Arizona. 🌟 In her role at Early Warning, she leads the company's human capital management strategies and people operations, including Culture, Engagement, Talent Management, Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, and Training. Natalie has 20 years of expertise leading Human Resources functions in both the private and non-profit sectors, with a focus on Human Resources transformation, leadership development, and creating amazing work environments that rise to meet the needs of both employees and customers. Prior to Early Warning, Natalie served as the Regional Vice President of Human Resources for Chubb Insurance (Western Region) where she provided strategic regional leadership, with oversight of multiple talent initiatives and multi-state teams. She has additional experience in healthcare, financial services, home building, and the airline industry. We are thrilled to spotlight Natalie and thank her for all she does for Wish Kids and their families. ⭐

#VolunteeroftheMonth 💫 Meet Amy Wilson! As a mother of a wish kid, Amy’s experience as a Make-A-Wish volunteer is deeply personal. When her son Jaxon was diagnosed with leukemia, he wished for a backyard playset—a gift that brought immense joy during a challenging year. 💙 Three years later, Jaxon’s wish continues to make an impact, transforming not only his life but also igniting Amy’s passion for bringing hope to other children facing critical illnesses. Now a dedicated wish granter, Amy has granted three wishes and is working on three more. For those considering volunteering, Amy encourages you wholeheartedly to take that first step. “It’s an amazing experience that will change your life. If you’re nervous, you’re not alone—the staff at Make-A-Wish is there to guide you, and other volunteers are eager to help. Sign up, go through training, and find someone you connect with to work on a wish together. It’s National Family Caregivers Month, and Nemu’s bond with Ms. Amber is worth celebrating. 🥰 Nemu has endured multiple surgeries for her nervous system disorder. Ms. Amber was Nemu’s comforting caregiver for 5+ years – so when she moved to Chicago, Nemu was devastated. “Nemu really loved her,” said her dad, Shinichi. 💙 When granted a wish, Nemu wanted to go to Chicago to see Ms. Amber and the snowy scenery. ❄️ Exploring the Windy City and snowtubing was great fun, but the highlight was visiting with Ms. Amber and her family over pizza. 🍕 With renewed joy from the reunion, Nemu’s mom Takako shared: “Nemu has repeatedly said that she would like to go back to Chicago.
