By studying stool samples, researchers are uncovering how the gut #microbiome — a network of bacteria, fungi, and viruses — can impact #cancer treatment outcomes. The Oncobiome Project is paving the way for personalized cancer care by analyzing microbiome patterns in over 2,000 patient stool samples. Early findings suggest microbial patterns could predict treatment responses and help tailor therapies for optimal outcomes. “Ultimately, we hope to provide the right drug at the right time based on each patient’s unique microbiome and genetics,” says Dr. Purna Kashyap, Mayo Clinic's Microbiomics Program director.
