At Memorial Health, We Show Up…even in inclement weather! Our quality department volunteered yesterday at P.A.C.K. (People of Action Caring for Kids) to stuff bags of food to be sent home with children who struggle with weekend hunger. Their efforts were much appreciated as many of these bags were delivered today due to weather-related school closings. It is always a privilege to serve this worthwhile organization.

Thanks to the SCAD Athletics men’s lacrosse team for coming to our Children’s Hospital of Savannah today. Several players came by to hang out with our patients and teach them about lacrosse. It’s always a great time when young athletes visit! Good luck next season, SCAD Bees!

Did someone scream for ice cream? In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Memorial Health’s Dwaine and Cynthia Willett Children’s Hospital of Savannah hosted an ice cream social for CURE Childhood Cancer. Memorial Health is proud to congratulate Davis Grovenstein on being awarded a Patricia Frist Memorial Scholarship. This merit-based scholarship honors dependent children of HCA Healthcare colleagues with financial support for a post-secondary education. This year, 689 scholarships were given for a total of more than $2 million. Davis is the son of Angela, sonographer in our ultrasound department. He is a freshman at Georgia College & State University where he is majoring in Business Administration. Congratulations, Davis! We’re proud of you and wish you much success in your future!

Every 20 seconds, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with sepsis and every two minutes someone dies. Sepsis does not only effect adults but can have devastating effects on children as well. As many as 80% of sepsis deaths could have been prevented with early recognition and treatment.
