- Hyundai Hope On Wheels awarded our Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Institute a $100,000 impact grant to support research initiatives and resources for children fighting cancer, such as our Executive Function Program. This program is designed to help children improve self-awareness in areas of executive dysfunction that have interfered with their ability to regulate behavior and complete essential daily tasks. “This time away from home impacts every part of their life – physically, mentally, socially and academically,” said Dr. Jacqueline Casillas, medical director of the Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Institute. “This grant will make a real difference by enhancing one of our programs that helps children who experience a side effect from treatment that disrupts the brain’s ability to control thoughts, emotions and behavior.” Current and former patients placed painted handprints on a new Hyundai to commemorate the grant and raise awareness for childhood cancer during a special ceremony held in partnership with Hyundai Hope on Wheels and Hyundai Motor America.

- Our 2024 Babies with Books Read-a-Thon was a hit! We joined more than 170 hospitals across the U.S. and internationally in encouraging families to read to their babies in the NICU. Providing parents and other caregivers books and encouraging them to read with infants in the NICU provides an important route for increasing infants’ speech and language interactions and supports bonding and family involvement with their infants’ care in the NICU. While our Read-a-Thon may be wrapping up this week, we will continue to encourage early literacy throughout the year. If you would like to support future NICU families, please consider donating a book from our Amazon wish list:https://lnkd.in/gpGr8Se3
- Today is Long Beach Gives, a citywide giving day dedicated to supporting Long Beach nonprofits. As our region’s nonprofit children’s hospital, and one of only eight in the state, we care for more than 50,000 children each year, including providing comprehensive care to our patients and their families who are fighting cancer, like Pablo. Please join us in taking care of the children of Long Beach and make a donation today. Donate now: longbeachgives.org/MMCF
- 6-year-old Calil recently had the opportunity to be the Angels Honorary Bat Kid. Calil is currently undergoing treatment for ALL (Acute lymphoblastic leukemia), a type of blood cancer. His doctors and nurses say he is the sweetest kid and loves to play games with the staff during his visits. Way to be a great Bat Kid, Calil! Photo Credit: Los Angeles Angels
- Celebrating Neonatal Nurses Day with heartfelt gratitude! Thank you to all of our NICU nurses. Your compassionate care, empathetic support, and dedication are inspiring
- We are proud to share a significant advancement in pediatric cardiac care: the addition of a dedicated pediatric Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machine within the Children’s Heart Institute. ECMO is a form of life support used for patients whose heart and lungs are unable to function adequately on their own. The machine temporarily takes over the work of the heart and lungs, providing oxygenated blood to the body and allowing these vital organs to rest and recover. As one of the few children’s hospitals in the region equipped with ECMO, we are expanding the range of life-saving interventions available to families, providing them with local access to the highest level of care. This milestone was made possible through the generous support of the Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach Auxiliary, a dedicated group of community members who have been instrumental in fundraising for Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital for over 75 years.

From the moment they are born, children depend on the follow-through of their parents to stay healthy. Dr. Tiffany Leung provides a year-round guide on when your child should receive check-ups. - We were honored to be a sponsor of the first-ever NICU Warrior Walk held by the Cooper Steinhauser Foundation. This nonprofit supports NICU staff and patient families through resources and advocacy efforts aimed to positively impact the neonatal community. Thank you to our amazing physicians, nurses, and support staff in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit who strive to provide the highest quality care and support to our tiniest patients and their families.
- Last night, Juju had the opportunity of being the Angels Bat Kid in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month. Earlier this year, Juju received treatments for a brain tumor and stroke and has been undergoing rehabilitation therapy with our therapists. During his hospital stay, he was able to meet Mike Trout, Logan O’Hoppe, and Zach Neto through our partnership with the Angels. Juju is slowly gaining strength on his left side and will continue to see our rehabilitation therapists and doctors, getting yearly scans to monitor tumor regrowth. Photo Credit: Los Angeles Angels
