The 54-bed facility offers 10 labor and delivery rooms, four private NICU beds, two c-section suites, four surgical suites, two cardiac labs, two endoscopy suites, and an eight-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU). “The Westover Hills community continues to welcome new neighbors year after year. We are a healthcare provider committed to growing right along with them. Methodist Healthcare is proud to celebrate the opening of its newest neighborhood freestanding emergency room (FSER), Methodist ER | Bulverde. "This expansion reflects our commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility in the Bulverde community," said Michael Beaver, Chief Executive Officer of Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak. "Our team is excited to provide world-class emergency care closer to the homes of our community members. Located at 20475 TX-46 #100 Spring Branch, TX 78070, this facility brings the health system's total number of FSERs to eleven and is an extension of Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak. The facility will provide care to adult and pediatric patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patients will receive a free ambulance transfer to a Methodist Healthcare facility if a higher level of care is needed. The staff will be comprised of board-certified ER and trauma physicians, registered nurses, and other medical staff who provide quality, compassionate care to families throughout the Bulverde community and surrounding areas. Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak is pleased to announce that Brandon Cohen has accepted the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO). Cohen most recently served as the Associate Chief Operating Officer (ACOO) for HCA HealthONE Swedish, a 504-bed, Level I Trauma Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Cohen earned his Master of Healthcare Administration and Business Administration from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University. Cohen joined HCA HealthONE Swedish in February 2023 and led executive oversight for surgical services, interventional radiology, laboratory, the burn and reconstructive service line, imaging, and more. He was instrumental in several major projects, including a 3Msterileprocessingdepartmentexpansion,a3M sterile processing department expansion, a 3Msterileprocessingdepartmentexpansion,a22M operating room expansion, and a $76M tower addition. It was an honor to host the inspiring women of Women in Healthcare at our soon-to-open facility, Methodist Hospital | Westover Hills, for their recent meeting. Passionate professionals from various sectors of the healthcare industry gathered for exclusive tours and an opportunity to connect over our shared mission to advance healthcare. We had the privilege of highlighting our colleagues and recognizing the extraordinary work being done by organizations like Women in Healthcare, which are vital to the future of the industry. Leaders from Methodist Healthcare also shared their experiences and insights, emphasizing the importance of patient-centered care and the role women play in healthcare. Through our community partnerships, we remain committed to driving innovation and providing world-class healthcare.
Methodist Healthcare helped fight the opioid and drug overdose epidemic by hosting its 6th annual Crush the Crisis drug take-back day event recently. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 107,543 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2023. In Texas alone, there were nearly 6,000 overdose deaths last year. Our annual event aims to educate our communities on the risk of medication misuse while providing a safe and anonymous way to dispose of medications that may be left over from previous procedures or other medical visits. Alongside local law enforcement, we hosted 12 locations across San Antonio, Atascosa, and Fredericksburg and collected 2,600 lbs. of medications—1,000 more than last year’s event! Individuals facing substance use challenges can see help from the National Substance Abuse and Mental Health Helpline (LIST ON SCREEN 800-662-HELP (4357)). This free, confidential, 24/7, 365-day-a-year treatment referral and information service is available for individuals and families facing mental and/or substance use disorders.
This past Saturday, the campus of Methodist Hospital | Westover Hills, our newest hospital opening soon in West San Antonio, was transformed into a sea of pink as nearly 5,000 survivors, fighters, family members, friends, caregivers, physicians, nurses, and advocates came together for the 2024 Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk. Each step symbolized hope, resilience, and a commitment to finding a cure. Every face in the crowd represented someone affected by breast cancer—a disease that will be diagnosed in about 1 in 8 women in the U.S. in their lifetime. Yet, thanks to early detection and advanced treatment, survival rates are increasing, and today, more than 4 million breast cancer survivors are living in the U.S. We wear pink for those we've lost, for those still fighting, and for a future without breast cancer. Thank you to everyone who joined us in this journey of strength, unity, and courage.
