I am thrilled to announce that during the EMEA SMC Sales & Tech Summit in Dublin, we successfully broke the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ for the most AI-generated images uploaded to a bespoke platform in one hour. This incredible achievement, made possible by Microsoft Copilot and the collective effort of our 2,200 attendees, including 1,400 Microsoft employees and 800 partners, showcases the power of collaboration and innovative technology. As part of a session focused on accessibility, this record-breaking moment served as a powerful reminder of our evolution as multimodal tech users. We speak to, listen to, and touch our devices, adopting new working methods that many individuals with a disability have been pioneering for years. This event exemplified how technology can bridge gaps and create opportunities for all. A special thank you to Richard Ellis & Hector Minto for leading this initiative and to everyone who participated in creating and uploading these AI-generated visuals. Your engagement helped bring our theme of accessibility to life and demonstrated how Copilot drives innovation and meaningful change. It’s fantastic to see the UK Government’s AI Opportunities Action Plan chiming so well with Microsoft’s own ambitions to create a thriving #AI economy in the UK. As I commented in the official Government announcement today, the scale of ambition demonstrated in the plan is exactly what the UK needs to drive growth, create jobs, and improve living standards for all. NHS trials are already showing how services built on Microsoft's AI can improve patient outcomes – for example, by helping doctors detect more cancers than in routine practice. Barnsley Council - one of the first public sector organisations to adopt Microsoft 365 Copilot - is using AI to transform service delivery by removing much of the day-to-day admin burden faced by employees. This enables them to focus on what really matters - helping people in their local community. In the wider public sector, our research has shown that by automating routine processes with AI, frontline workers - doctors, nurses, police officers, teachers - could save as much as 23 million hours a week. The Government can start taking advantage right now, without waiting for additional capital investment, by embedding AI tools such as Microsoft 365 Copilot - which it already has access to. Of the 50 recommendations made in the report, it's especially encouraging to see planning for AI infrastructure accelerating. This is crucial to ensuring the UK can maintain a leading position in AI. We're investing £2.5bn in major AI infrastructure, skilling and education programmes in the UK. We've trained more than 1 million people so far. At Microsoft, we are ready to help our customers do two things at once: innovate with AI and comply with the European Union's AI Act. To that end, today we are sharing more information on how we are complying with the EU AI Act ourselves and empowering our customers to do the same. For our part, we’ve built out robust and responsible AI governance over the past eight years, devoting significant resources to meet this moment: Cross-functional working groups, combining AI governance, engineering, legal, and public policy experts, have been working for months to determine whether and how our internal standards and practices should be updated to reflect the final text of the EU AI Act and early indications of implementation details. For our customers, we’ve developed initial tooling to help achieve consistent and efficient compliance. We are also publishing a first wave of documentation on the Microsoft Trust Center to answer key customer questions. Because more than 60 secondary regulatory efforts related to the EU AI Act are still underway, we are committed to publishing regular updates on the Microsoft Trust Center and hope it will serve as a valuable resource as the law takes effect in phases. We are excited by the many ways our customers are using AI to innovate and improve lives. Microsoft will continue to make significant product, tooling, and governance investments to help our customers innovate with AI in line with new laws like the EU AI Act.

A father of two daughters myself, I find it troubling that although women represent 49% of the UK’s working population, just 29% are in technology roles. As an industry, we need to do more to attract women and other under-represented groups into technology if we’re to ensure everyone benefits from the AI economy. The demand is clearly there. Our free TechHer digital skills programme for women is proving such a success that we’re expanding it and aiming to reach 6,000 women across public and private sectors in 2025. This is on top of the 4,000 women we gave training to in 2024. So I’m really proud of our TechHer team and its founder Jane Pitt. Her story is a really inspirational read for all women wondering if they could have a career in technology. The answer is, yes you can! As we usher in a new year, we have a golden opportunity for American AI to flourish around the world. Not since the invention of electricity has the United States had the opportunity it has today to harness new technology to invigorate the nation’s economy. In many ways, artificial intelligence is the electricity of our age, and the next four years can build a foundation for America’s economic success for the next quarter century. At Microsoft, we see a three-part vision for America’s technology success. This starts with advances and investments in world-leading American AI technology and infrastructure. Second, we need a national strategy to equip people across the country with the skills needed to use AI to pursue higher-paying jobs and more successful careers. Finally, the United States must focus on exporting American AI securely and broadly to our allies and friends, bolstering our domestic economy and ensuring that other countries benefit from AI advancements. The country has a unique opportunity to pursue this vision and build on the foundational ideas set for AI policy during President Trump’s first term. Achieving this vision will require a partnership that unites leaders from government, the private sector, and the country’s educational and non-profit institutions.
