- In a recent opinion piece, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Ideas Lab Editor James N. Fitzhenry does not mince words about the future of manufacturing. He writes, “Billions are being invested in this country to create good-paying, often tech-driven new jobs that could transform places hardest hit by economic hardships — but only if companies can find enough qualified workers.” To celebrate National Manufacturing Month, Milwaukee PBS is partnering with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for a town hall and job fair on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Milwaukee Area Technical College. The town hall will be moderated by Milwaukee PBS’s Portia Young and recorded for a broadcast on our channels later in October. The town hall will feature regional business executives who will discuss the opportunities for Wisconsin to expand its modern manufacturing base as well as the obstacles. The job fair runs from 3 to 4:15 p.m. and the town hall starts at 4:30 p.m. in MATC’s Cooley Auditorium, 1017 N. 6th St. Additional information can be found athttps://bit.ly/4dmSojFFollow this link to read Fitzhenry's full article. https://bit.ly/3BkztZP

Let's celebrate National Manufacturing Month with a town hall. Milwaukee PBS and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel are teaming up to present The Future of Manufacturing Town Hall and job fair on Thursday, Oct. 3 in Milwaukee Area Technical College's Cooley Auditorium. This free and open to the public event will focus on the importance of attracting and training the workforce as the industry trends towards high tech and automation. The job fair runs from 3 to 4:15 p.m. and the town hall will begin at 4:30 and go until 5:30. Panelists include Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry CEO Sachin Shivaram, former Rockwell Automation Quality Team Lead and Build Sessions CLE founder Aaliyah Brown, MEM, Sussex IM CEO Megan Tzanoukakis, CPA, CSCP, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers representative Kevin Murch, and MATC instructor Barney Bannon. The town hall will also feature pre-recorded interviews with several high-profile executives, including Microsoft President Brad Smith, Husco CEO Austin Ramirez, Sentry Equipment CEO Brian Baker, GenMet Corp. owner Mary Isbister and Palermo's Pizza CEO Giacomo Fallucca. The conversation will be moderated by Milwaukee PBS host Portia Young and recorded for a broadcast on Milwaukee PBS later in October. The job fair will take place directly before the town hall in the hallway outside the auditorium. It will run from 3 to 4:15 p.m. and will feature local businesses that will be on hand to talk about job openings, provide resources and showcase their manufacturing work. Also a great opportunity for networking. (Shout out to the Milwaukee Area Technical College CareerHub for its help in putting that together.) Cooley Auditorium is located in the main building of the MATC Downtown campus, located at 1015 N. 6th Street in Milwaukee. Registration is encouraged but not required.
