I’m honored to join the Board of Trustees of American Public Media Group-Minnesota Public Radio, whose trusted journalism, cultural programming, and bold storytelling have shaped public conversation regionally and nationally. In the midst of dynamic shifts in media consumption and technology, I’m eager to collaborate with CEO Jean Taylor, her team, and fellow board members, to advance APM-MPR’s mission, deepen its digital engagement, and expand its audience reach. By fostering innovation, inclusive programming, and community-driven initiatives, we can amplify public radio’s role in cultivating an informed and vibrant civic space. I look forward to contributing my perspective as we together ensure public media thrives as a vital and evolving resource for all. But aside from cooking her famous Ojibwe fried rice, Leah didn’t feel connected to the significance of Manoomin — a sacred plant revered for its sustenance and deep connection to Indigenous identity and heritage. So, she set out with a film crew to connect with her cultural roots through the tradition of wild rice harvesting. And last Wednesday, Nov. 20, a special screening of that documentary, “Finding Manoomin: A Search for the Spirit of Wild Rice," took place at MPR. The screening included a lively panel discussion afterwards with key participants of the film. The documentary can be found on-demand at mprnews.org/wildrice along with an hour-long audio companion, or you catch it on Thanksgiving at 9 p.m. on TPT - Twin Cities PBS. 📸 Photo 1: Ben Garvin for MPR News
