๐ฏ Stop Missing Out on the Best Developers by Clinging to Outdated Degree Requirements A Computer Science degree doesn't guarantee great code or real-world problem-solving skills. Yet, too many companies are still using degrees as a hiring crutch. Itโs time to stop. Degrees may show: โ Knowledge of core concepts โ Persistence and commitment โ An easy filter for recruiters But theyโre also filtering out incredible talent. Today, some of the best developers are coming from bootcamps, self-study, or unconventional backgrounds. They bring: ๐ Real projects that solve real problems (check their GitHub!) ๐ Practical experience that matters in the field ๐ฅ An insatiable drive to learn and adapt Letโs rethink how we hire. Drop the degree requirement and start looking at what really matters: skills, portfolios, and practical assessments. Youโll find a broader, more diverse pool of developersโones who deliver results. The best talent doesnโt always come with a diploma. It comes with passion and proof. Letโs hire accordingly. - Mirigos, Inc reposted this

But no matter where they were based, traditional outsourcing always seemed to fall short of expectations. Why stick with it? Leadership typically saw outsourcing as the โcheaperโ routeโeven when data showed that one strong in-house engineer could outperform three outsourced ones. Conversations with fellow CTOs echoed the same hope: maybe it was just about finding the ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ. Surely, somewhere, the โperfectโ outsourcing teamโa true unicornโexisted๐. When I took on the VP of Engineering role at Ticketmaster, I set out to make outsourcing work. We had existing teams in India and China. Open conversations about boosting productivity led to an unexpected suggested solution: both teams wanted to be an exclusive provider, claiming it was the only way to succeed. Just as I was exploring compromises, another roadblock hitโ: our best developer from the Chinese team was reassigned to a different project because it was more profitable for the company. When I offered to pay more to retain him, rigid existing contracts blocked us. After facing these same issues time and time again, I realized that the It was less about finding a unicorn team and more about creating a new approach that combined top-tier talent with the flexibility and focus companies actually need. Thatโs how Mirigos was bornโto break free from outdated outsourcing constraints and deliver teams that donโt just โfill a roleโ but truly integrate, innovate, and ๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ถ๐บ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐. By aligning goals and measured achievements between all players we were able to make remote teams work and become as, if not more, productive than local engineers. Is Outsourcing the Best Way to Scale Quickly? Many companies turn to outsourcing as a quick fix for scaling challenges. But does speed really equate to success? From my experience, an intense focus on rapid hiring often overshadows the importance of finding the right fit. This can lead to high turnover and inconsistent results. In the outsourcing world, we've seen companies request talent within two days to meet immediate needs. While this might solve a short-term problem, it rarely leads to long-term success. When speed trumps skill, quality invariably suffers. In my upcoming webinar, I'll explore the key differences between outsourcing and team augmentation. We'll dive into: ๐ธ When each approach works best ๐ธ How to safeguard your product's quality ๐ธ Ensuring your remote teams are as effective as in-house ones ๐ธ Maintaining product integrity and setting realistic expectations with vendors ๐ธ Why remote work is here to stay and how to make it work for you If you're a CTO, CEO, or someone leading remote teams, join me to learn how to make these strategies truly effective for your company. Let's shift the focus from just scaling quickly to scaling wisely. How to Truly Measure Your Development Team's Success Quality work isn't about micromanagement; it's about understanding what drives real success and aligning it with your company's goals and expectations. โ๏ธ Remember: People deliver what you measure. Choose your metrics wisely. I've seen companies focus on questionable metrics like lines of code written per day or the number of check-ins. Does that truly indicate success? I could write every word on a separate line to inflate the line count, but would that make the code successful or high-quality? No. Yet, I'd be meeting your metrics. โฑ Measuring success by hours logged at the computer? I could move my mouse all day without achieving meaningful results. Does that reflect success or deliver high-quality work? Again, no. But I'd still be fulfilling your metric. ๐ฏ Focus on outcomes, not inputs. Set clear goals and measure resultsโnot just effort. Prioritize quality over quantity. When done right, remote work can lead to exceptional results. Success inspires success, and great results motivate your team. These are the principles I embrace in running my team augmentation company, Mirigos. Let's shift our focus to what truly matters and redefine success metrics to reflect the quality and impact of our work.#Leadership #TeamSuccess #Productivity #RemoteWork #QualityOverQuantity - Mirigos, Inc reposted this

Why Do Virtual Teams Often Struggle with Efficiency? Many companies grapple with the challenges of managing remote teams, often due to a lack of experience in virtual leadership. This can lead to disengagement, high turnover, and the loss of valuable talent. ๐ฅ Remote Workers Are Core Team Members They're not temporary contractors or task-based freelancersโthey're integral parts of your team. They deserve the same treatment and inclusion as your in-house staff. โ๏ธ Involve Them Fully Include remote employees in team-building activities and decision-making processes. Provide them access to the same knowledge and resources as on-site employees. If you treat them as "out of sight, out of mind," don't be surprised if they reciprocate that sentiment. ๐ Respect Their Diversity Your remote team members are scattered across different cities, countries, and time zones, each with their own cultures and holidays. It's important to respect these differences, adjust work schedules when needed, and ensure they feel included in all team activities. ๐ค Prioritize Regular Communication Consistent communication is vital. Connect with them at least twice a week to build strong relationships. Many people thrive when they feel part of a collaborative effort. While replicating "water cooler conversations" is more challenging over video calls, making the effort helps build a cohesive team where everyone is working toward the same goals and shares the same values. Let's bridge the gap and make our virtual teams as connected and efficient as our in-house teams!
