- After five years Ruth Mannes, who has served as Executive Director has stepped down from her position. During her tenure, Mannes has been instrumental in advancing MoCA’s mission and enhancing its reputation as a vital hub for the arts community. Under Mannes’ leadership, MoCA solidified its standing as a beacon for the arts, nurturing artistic expression and meaningful connections. Her contributions have amplified MoCA’s commitment to fostering innovation, learning, and community engagement through a diverse range of exhibitions, performing arts events, and educational initiatives. Ruth led the MoCA team to welcome 100,000 visitors for the past four years and 26 dynamic exhibitions by esteemed artists such as Helmet Lang, Anselm Reyle, and Ann Weiner. The team presented 60 unforgettable performances by emerging and accomplished musicians including Wynton Marsalis, Samara Joy, and the Danish String Quartet as well as establishing MoCA as the home of the Heida Hermanns International Music Competition. During her time at MoCA, the team created robust educational programs such as Camp MoCA and other programs that have brought in 4,000 learners of all ages. Board Chair William D. Felton expressed gratitude for Mannes’ contributions, stating, “We are grateful to Ruth for her many contributions to MoCA especially during a challenging time leading us through the COVID pandemic. Ruth’s unwavering passion for the arts and her strategic foresight have impacted MoCA and the broader community.” A search committee led by MoCA CT’s Board of Directors has begun the process of appointing the next Executive Director. MoCA CT remains committed to its mission of fostering creativity and connection through exhibitions, performing arts, and educational programs. The Board and staff are dedicated to expanding MoCA’s reach as an inclusive and inspiring campus for art and culture. Careers - MoCA CT https://mocact.org - MoCA CT is excited to announce ON FIRE: Energy, Climate, Infrastructure, Westport Public Art Collections’ 2025 exhibition at MoCA CT, curated by Ive Covaci, Anne Boberski, and the WestPAC Committee. ON FIRE includes over 75 artworks in a variety of media, and asks how artists from the 1930s to today have envisioned and responded to the interrelationship of energy, infrastructure, and the environment. This fourth annual exhibition by WestPAC at MoCA is inspired by a series of eight paintings, The Evolution of Heat, created by Ralph L. Boyer in 1934 for the old Staples High School on Riverside as part of the Public Works of Art Project. This exhibition is accompanied by the Learning Gallery space showcasing WestPAC’s Ford Times Collection of paintings, a remarkable gift received from the Ford Motor Company in 1966. These paintings, each published in reproduction in the pocket-sized consumer magazine, Ford Times, were created by American artists during the 1950s and early 1960s, a period known as the golden age of magazine illustration and American cars, coinciding with the development of the interstate highway system. Programming events include: - Opening Reception on January 9th at 6:00pm - Exhibition Tour with Curators Anne Boberski and Ive Covaci, co-chairs of the WestPAC Committee on January 23 at 5:00pm - Film Screening of DELA: The Making of El Anatsui on February 13 at 7:00pm - Community Conversation on Art, Infrastructure, and the Environment on February 27th at 6:00pm.
