Six students from Lakeview Elementary School also represented MCCSC at the statewide competition. The Academy student team developed an app prototype called Hoolio that allows teens to post job reviews to help other teens make informed employment decisions. Lakeview fifth grade students worked with IU professor Anne Leftwich to create a chatbot that uses generative AI. Following the competition, The Academy students also gave a presentation to Senator Shelli Yoder and MCCSC Superintendent Dr. Markay Winston to demonstrate their app prototype. “I think the most rewarding part of the whole thing for me was actually getting the opportunity to go to the statehouse,” said Academy student Lucas Wiatrowski. “I’m incredibly proud of the work we accomplished and am infinitely grateful for the opportunity to be there in the first place.”https://lnkd.in/gHNesJ3b

MCCSC Interim superintendent on early learning, student involvement, and goals indianapublicmedia.org - Three students from The Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship have been named finalists in the CSforGood Competition sponsored by Nextech. The students, Lucas W., Alex V., and Bryson M., developed an app prototype called "Hoolio," which earned them a spot in the final round of the competition. The students became involved in the competition as part of The Academy's Introduction to Entrepreneurship class. "The app allows teens to post evaluations of jobs, helping others determine if a particular business might be a good fit for them. This unique concept has garnered significant attention and has paved the way for these talented students to showcase their project at the CSforGood Finalist Event," said Joann Novak, Business and Computer Science Dual Credit Instructor at The Academy. The students will be collaborating with The Dimension Mill as they prepare for their final presentation. The final competition will take place on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis. At the event, the students will present their project to a panel of judges. Following the judging, a grand prize winner will be announced. "The students' dedication, creativity, and hard work have culminated in this remarkable achievement, reflecting the quality of education and innovation fostered at The Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship," said Novak.
