Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE), located in Washington, DC, and named a 2018 Washington Post Top Workplace, is one of the largest integrated sports and entertainment companies in the country with one of the most diverse partnership groups in all of sports. MSE owns and operates five professional sports teams: NBA's Washington Wizards, NBA G League’s Capital City Go-Go, NBA 2K League’s Wizards District Gaming, the 2018 NHL STANLEY CUP CHAMPION Washington Capitals and the WNBA's Washington Mystics. This week, the Washington Mystics President’s Circle initiative partnered with the Women's Sports Foundation (WSF) to host the empowering event "Play to Lead: The Impact of Sports on Women’s Leadership." Alycen McAuley (Chief Business Officer, Mystics) and Danette Leighton (Chief Executive Officer, WSF) led an insightful conversation on the critical impact of sports on women’s leadership. The event featured brand-new research from WSF that enhanced understanding of the current landscape for girls in sports, while providing actionable policy and recommendations to champion the next generation of female leaders.

The 2024 Washington Mystics’ season shattered viewership records. We saw an increase of in-game viewership by 139% across the entire DC market, and a remarkable 90% rise in unique digital viewers on Monumental Sports Network alone. And that’s for just one singular team in the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association)! My takeaway? This is just the beginning. Nearly 20 years after we took over ownership of the Mystics, our vision is becoming a reality, and the rest of the world is catching on. It’s incredible to see. We’re proud champions of women’s sports across leagues at Monumental Sports & Entertainment. I’m thrilled for what’s ahead.

Over 80 high school educators from the D.C. area gained firsthand insights into rewarding careers in the skilled trades at the Crafting Futures event on October 16. Hosted at District E Powered By Ticketmaster in partnership with Clark Construction Group, the initiative highlighted alternative pathways for students beyond the traditional college route. Attendees toured Clark’s 600 Fifth project site and engaged with industry leaders, including Clark’s CEO Robby Moser and our President of Venues, Jordan Silberman. The event showcased the vital role of skilled professionals in shaping our nation's infrastructure and emphasized the growing opportunities within the construction industry. We were thrilled to collaborate with Clark Construction for this impactful event and extend our gratitude to all the educators dedicated to guiding the next generation toward fulfilling careers. Together, we're building a stronger community and opening doors to new possibilities.

Our third annual Emerging Tech Talent Scholar Career & Game Day brought together forty promising tech scholars at Capital One Arena, marking another successful chapter in developing our region's tech workforce. Hosted by Monumental Sports & Entertainment, the event demonstrated the growing strength of our tech scholar community as both alumni and new faces connected over shared aspirations in technology. The Arena and District E provided an ideal setting for meaningful exchanges between scholars and industry leaders from Monumental and other major regional employers. These organizations shared insights about emerging opportunities across data analytics, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software development, robotics, digital transformation, networking, and machine learning. The day was highlighted by a compelling address from Ted Leonsis, founder, chairman, and CEO of Monumental Sports & Entertainment. Drawing from his own experience, Ted encouraged scholars to maintain their curiosity and adaptability, emphasizing how technology continues to reshape every industry. His early recognition of technology's transformative power serves as a practical example for scholars beginning their careers. Our program's reach has grown significantly since 2021, with over 500 scholarships awarded across fourteen leading institutions to include - American University, Bowie State University, Gallaudet University, George Mason University, Georgetown University, Hood College, Howard University, Marymount University, University of Maryland Global Campus, Towson University, Trinity Washington University, University of the District of Columbia, Virginia Tech, and Virginia Commonwealth University. The event showcased the impact, contributions, and ongoing engagement from Clark Construction Group, KPMG US, Maximus, JPMorganChase, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, McKinsey & Company, EY, Deloitte, Northrop Grumman, T. Rowe Price and General Dynamics. Big thanks goes to Kimberly Sarro and Jaime Miguel McCarthy for their continued commitment to driving our skills and talent initiatives forward.

Last night was a landmark moment – 1,000 wins for my father, Ted Leonsis, as owner of the Washington Capitals. It’s been an incredible 25 years! What makes this milestone even more special is sharing it with my father. Working alongside him and being part of the leadership team that continues to shape the Caps’ legacy is something I’m incredibly grateful for.
