Updates
- For over 30 years, Ed and Kathy Ludwig have cherished Martha’s Vineyard as seasonal residents, sharing its beauty with their sons and grandchildren. In 2010, the Ludwig family was a lead donor in the $48 million campaign to build our new hospital building. Their generosity didn’t stop there—they continue to support our workforce housing initiative, helping ensure our dedicated staff has access to affordable housing. On the night of September 30, 2020, Ed’s life took an unexpected turn when he suffered a sudden subdural hematoma. Thanks to the expert care provided by the team at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, Ed was stabilized and transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he received life-saving treatment. We are deeply grateful for the Ludwig family’s generosity and continued support, which helps us provide critical care to the community.

- Earlier this month, we held a flag-raising ceremony to mark #NationalRecoveryMonth. There were 26 purple flags placed around the flagpole, representing the lives lost in Dukes County over the past five years due to opioid overdose. Nationally, more than 80,000 people lost their lives last year to this epidemic. We stand in solidarity with those affected by substance use and commit to raising awareness and offering support to our community.
- This year’s Agricultural Country Fair in West Tisbury was a success, and Martha’s Vineyard Hospital was well represented by our talented staff. Judy Sylvia, a medical records employee, won a blue ribbon for her jelly roll rug. Steve Hoover, materials manager for Perioperative Services, earned second place for his winter harbor scene, "Dry Dock in Winter Haven." George Brennan, manager of Development, competed in the Martha's Vineyard Cornhole Summer Showdown with his partner Brian Dowd. John Murray, director of Facilities, dedicated his time to sharing more information about the work being done at The Island Autism Center & Farm, a project that supports individuals with autism, including his own son.
