Mental health affects everyone, no matter who they are or where they are from. That's why NAMI Chicago is committed to showing up for everyone in our community—whether it’s Chicago’s first responders, students and school staff, a person on the other end of the phone, or in the community, meeting individuals where they are. We work tirelessly, seven days a week to create a world that prioritizes mental wellness, and to bridge people into the care and support they deserve to live thriving lives of recovery. NAMI Chicago is the local Chicago affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. We are one of the largest, most active NAMI affiliates in the country, with full-time and part-time staff, graduate level interns, and weekly volunteers. With only 21 days into 2025, how is it going? Have you thought about shifting your mindset and new year intention to how you will stay positive and energized every day? Our Wellness Manager, Robyn, has one of our favorite positivity techniques. It's called the Win List. It tracks your wins, big or small. 1️⃣ Recognizing your wins—no matter how small—can boost your motivation and happiness. 2️⃣Track Your Successes - You can write it down in a journal, on a calendar, or simply on a post-it note! 3️⃣ Take Inventory - Start by writing down what went well. What did you feel good about? At the end of the week, give yourself credit for a job well done. Special shout out to @mandukayoga for donating yoga mats, blocks, cushions, and boosters to our Wellness Room!
NAMI Chicago honors and celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a champion of justice, equality, and peace for all people. Dr. King expressed this beautifully when he said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Reflecting on Dr. King's legacy reminds us of our commitment to promote and advocate for healing—not just to survive but also to thrive. 🔔 The NAMI Chicago Helpline will have adjusted hours for MLK Day. On Monday, January 20, you can reach the Helpline at 833-626-4244 from 9 AM to 5 PM if you need someone to talk to or guidance on how to get connected with the right resources. You can also text, chat, or call #988 for support. #MLKDay
🔈Insurance companies can deny coverage for treatments if a patient has made "too much" progress despite recommendations from a patient's doctor. Medical decisions should be made by a patient and their doctor, not by an insurance company. NAMI Chicago is working to decrease barriers to mental health treatment like this so treatment is affordable and accessible to all.
