New York State is expanding ways to provide access to emergency food assistance to people living in remote communities. OGS Commissioner Jeanette Moy today announced the piloting of two food locker systems in the towns of Hastings, Oswego County, and Truxton, Cortland County, that will provide targeted households with grocery staples and fresh produce at no cost. More: https://lnkd.in/gaY6P6t3The food lockers are part of OGS's USDA Food Distribution group's work in administering $2.7 million in Reach and Resiliency grant funds to the Food Bank of Central New York and all regional food banks that serve the entire state. Commissioner Moy: "For the first time in New York State, food lockers are being used to store foods at temperatures that keep them safe to eat, giving people the freedom to pick them up on their own schedule. The Office of General Services is proud to work with the Food Bank of Central New York and the United States Department of Agriculture to install and roll out these food locker systems to benefit New Yorkers in Oswego and Cortland counties." Under Governor Kathy Hochul's leadership, the food locker pilot is a prime example of the steps OGS is taking around food distribution for New York State's underserved communities. The food lockers will remove barriers to healthy food, combat food insecurity, and give people a flexible and convenient way to get food for their families. This week, I was proud to join Governor Hochul at the 2024 MWBE forum at the Capital Center. This annual event, directed by Empire State Development President & CEO Hope Knight, EVP Jason M. Clark, Esq., and incredible team of professionals, featured remarks from Administration members Clarissa M. Rodriguez Esq., Julissa Gutierrez (she/her/hers) and industry leaders. I was proud to represent NYS Office of General Services and discuss our strategies and projects in "Unlocking MWBE Opportunities in Mega Projects, moderated by Ruth Hassell-Thompson, and with panelists Carrie Torres, (DASNY (Dormitory Authority - State of New York ); Tracey Mitchell, Gateway Development Commission (GDC), and Eric Alemany, New York Power Authority. Government contracting agencies and authorities play a critical role in the success of the MWBE program, and #TeamOGS is proud to share the contracting progress and transparency that our professionals provide for our private sector partners across our vast infrastructure portfolio.

Last week, thousands of government and technology leaders assembled in Albany for the 2024 Public Sector Network “Government Innovation New York” showcase. There, #TeamOGS Digital Services Director Jessica Houle delivered a keynote on “Enabling a Digital Culture to Improve Service Delivery” and discussed what the OGS Digital Services team is doing to set the digital standard for New York State. By putting the customer at the center of all they do, Jessica outlined the eight standards that guide their “digital first” approach: ✅ Accessibility = Equal access for all ✅ Content = Easy to find and understand ✅ Design = Human-centered ✅ Governance = Dedicated teams with roles and responsibilities ✅ Measurement & Analysis = Leveraging feedback and data to make informed decisions ✅ Performance = Optimized for any browser or device ✅ Privacy & Security = Following NYS security standards ✅ Trust = Ensuring a consistent and transparent experience for all Jessica explains, “Every interaction between government and the public is an opportunity to build trust – and that’s why we measure it.” Thank you, Public Sector Network, for the opportunity to share the important work underway at OGS to build an inclusive digital community for all New Yorkers.

Congratulations to #TeamOGS Media Services on receiving a NY Emmy Award in the Diversity/Equity/Inclusion – Long Form Content category, for their production of “The Path Forward: Remembering Willowbrook.” Proudly produced and distributed in partnership with the NYS Council on Developmental Disabilities, “Willowbrook” marks the 50th anniversary of Geraldo Rivera’s groundbreaking 1972 exposé, which shed light on the horrific conditions and abuses at the Willowbrook State School on Staten Island. The Willowbrook story became a catalyst for change across the nation, forever changing the way people with disabilities were cared for and treated in New York State and beyond. Featuring interviews with Geraldo Rivera, former resident and self-advocacy pioneer Bernard Carabello, parents and siblings of former residents, and former staff, the half-hour documentary examines Willowbrook’s legacy and the lasting change that resulted. OGS is proud to recognize the following team members who worked tirelessly on this project and are so deserving of this award: Kate Schmieding, executive producer; Joseph Walsh, director; Catherine Greninger, lead motion graphic artist; John Armstrong, editor; Shamus O’Donnell, creative director; and Casey O’Donnell, producer.
