GameStop accidentally exposed it in 2021... It's called Payment for Order Flow - and it's costing you money on every trade you make. I used to build trading algorithms for JPMorgan, Barclays and Millennium. Here's the disturbing reality I discovered: Your "commission-free" broker isn't executing your trades directly. They're selling your order flow to market makers - firms that can see and execute your trades before anyone else. These firms aren't paying billions for your trades out of generosity. They're literally auctioning off your financial privacy to the highest bidder. As someone who built algorithms managing hundreds of millions in trading volume, I saw firsthand how the system works against retail investors through: • Hidden fees buried in execution prices • Wider spreads than necessary • Worse execution prices than available elsewhere The SEC is finally taking notice. But Wall Street is fighting back hard, claiming it would increase costs and reduce market participation. Here's what they don't want you to know: The UK banned PFOF in 2012. The EU is phasing it out by 2026. Both markets function perfectly well. As an engineer who's built both traditional and decentralized systems, I can tell you why they're fighting so hard: It's their golden goose. The technology exists today to make trading: • Truly transparent • Actually fair • Genuinely efficient We just need to rebuild the infrastructure the right way. This is why I left traditional finance to build Omni. We're creating an open orderflow engine where: • Execution is transparent • Anyone can access the system • Market makers compete publicly • Competition guarantees best prices The future of trading will be built on open, permissionless systems - because it's simply better for users.
