In 1978, PEER was established under Dr. Abron's belief: Humans and the physical environment are fully compatible and co-exist to mutually benefit one another. This very philosophy continues to shape our problem-solving approach of taking every asset of the natural and built environments into consideration to provide solutions that are transformative, sustainable, and appropriate. Dr. Lilia A. Abron, the CEO/President and Founder of PEER Consultants, P.C. (PEER) is a trailblazer, a History Maker™, an entrepreneur. She is the first African-American woman in the nation to earn a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and the first African-American to start an engineering consulting firm focused on the environment and its environmental issues. This has helped shape the unique company PEER is today — a steward of the environment that continually promotes collaboration, builds a sense of community through its work, and strives to create a better planet for present and future generations. Using a personalized approach every time, we focus on solving today's challenging environmental problems. Every day we are realizing our vision as a prosperous and productive environmental company that exceeds the expectations of our clients and employees, while delivering high-quality services that enhance the natural and built environments. 🌍 At PEER, we celebrate the diversity of our team, with members hailing from 10 different countries, each contributing their unique perspectives and expertise to our work. 🌏 As we celebrate Hispanic heritage month, we are proud to recognize the invaluable contributions of our team member, Ricardo Martinez P.E. who comes from El Salvador. Ricardo is the Director of Environmental Engineer Management Services at PEER Consultants, P.C. Ricardo has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas and a Master of Science in Environmental engineering from Florida International university. 🔮 Fun Fact: El Salvador has been embracing agroecology, a sustainable farming method that combines traditional agricultural practices with modern science. It focuses on reducing the use of harmful chemicals, conserving water, and fostering biodiversity. 🔧💧 SepticSmart Week 2024 is here, and it's a great time to raise awareness about the importance of proper septic system maintenance for the protection of public health and the environment. At PEER Consultants P.C, we're proud to raise awarness through our partnership with the Black Belt Unincorporated Wastewater Program (BBUWP), a CBO dedicated to installing appropriate onsite wastewater treatment systems in rural, underserved communities that previously lacked access to functional onsite wastewater treatment systems. This situation is primarily due to the preponderance of clayey soils that have a very low percolation rate, where most conventional septic systems fail. To address this, BBUWP and its team have y installed 150 compatible septic systems so far, and we’re on track to installing 300 more systems by 2025. BBUWP’s mascot, Ms. Poppete, delivers tips to each household on the maintenance of the onsite system and the "Dos and Don'ts" of what one can put down the drain. Ms. Poopette raises the awareness of the importance of proper septic system maintenance to each and every resident in the unincorporated areas of the Alabama Black Belt region that are now enjoying an onsite septic system that operates properly. They can now use their yards for fun, family gatherings and just sitting and enjoying nature. In Remembrance of 9/11: Honoring the Victims and Reflecting on Environmental Impact Today, on the anniversary of September 11, 2001, we solemnly remember the lives lost in an act of immense tragedy. The weight of that day still lingers, not only in the hearts of those who lost loved ones but also in the broader fabric of our society. The environmental consequences of 9/11 extended far beyond the immediate destruction. The collapse of the Twin Towers released a toxic plume, blanketing New York City in harmful pollutants—substances that continue to affect the health and well-being of countless individuals including the brave first responder of New York City to this day. Asbestos, lead, and other hazardous materials left a lasting imprint on both human lives and the environment. At PEER Consultants, we recognize the critical importance of addressing these lingering environmental challenges, ensuring that future generations are better protected from environmental disasters. Curious, he brewed a drink with the berries leading to the discovery of coffee! Coffee is an integral part of Ethiopia's national identity and is enjoyed globally today!

On this day, we pause to remember Nagasaki Memorial Day, a solemn occasion that marks the devastating atomic bombing of Nagasaki 79 years ago. The impact on human lives was catastrophic, with thousands lost in an instant and many more suffering the long-term effects of radiation exposure. The environmental devastation was equally profound, leaving scars on the landscape that would take decades to heal. As we reflect on this tragedy, we are reminded of the origami crane, a symbol of peace and hope that emerged from the ashes of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The story of Sadako Sasaki, who folded a thousand cranes in her wish for healing, continues to inspire us today. At PEER Consultants, P.C we stand with the global community in saying, "Never Again."
