Now Open: 2025 PHCA Quality Symposium Call for Speakers docs.google.com - Last week, PHCA President and CEO Zachary Shamberg joined Department of Aging Secretary Jason Kavulich at the 2024 Fall Conference in Old Forge, hosted by the NEPA Aging Network Alliance and the Northeast Pennsylvania Long-Term Care Association – dedicated individuals who are supporting older adults in their region. It was a great opportunity to address the state of long-term care, what PHCA has been able to help accomplish and what we are looking achieve in the coming months.
- City & State PA hosted a summit today on a very important topic today: caring for Pennsylvania seniors. PHCA's Zachary Shamberg joined Pennsylvania's Secretary of Policy and Planning Akbar Hossain, Secretary of Aging Jason Kavulich and other advocates to address challenges in the state and what needs to happen to better support the state's fastest growing demographic. Health care infrastructure is a growing concern in Pennsylvania for seniors. Nursing homes continue to close, seniors struggle to access care and hospitals are becoming overcrowded because they can't discharge patients to nursing homes for long-term care or rehabilitation services.Nicole Stallings, the president and CEO for the Hospitals and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP), addressed these concerns on her panel by pointing to the challenges of admitting patients from emergency departments into a hospital to receive further care because beds are not always available. Nicole also shared the workforce concerns amongst the entire health care continuum is causing a fear that the various health care sectors will cannibalize each other by pulling an already limited source of workers from one area to another. Senator Argall addressed legislation he has worked with PHCA on to help remove career entry barriers in long-term care. Three bills, #SB1102, #SB1103, & #SB1104 -- common sense legislation -- all have to be reintroduced in the new legislative session. The conversations covered a lot of care. And it became (even more) clear, that Pennsylvania has a lot more to do to support the needs of its most vulnerable population.
- Our friends at the Florida Health Care Association and their members – providers of care for seniors and adults with disabilities – are working around the clock to continue care AND prepare for #HurricaneMilton. This will be the second hurricane in as many weeks to create devastating impacts on the communities in its path and surrounding areas. Our friends at the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association and their members are still trying to clean up from #HurricaneHelene. You can help. Both associations have established relief funds to support the residents and their providers of care. To learn more about how to provide support, click the link below. https://lnkd.in/ePHE8qUP
