About us

Project Sunshine’s mission is to deliver the healing power of play to children with medical needs through trained and dedicated volunteers. For over 20 years, Project Sunshine volunteers have brought joy and play directly to pediatric patients through our network of medical facility and nonprofit partners across the country. Over 18,000 trained volunteers deliver programs that provide opportunities for creative expression, socialization, intellectual stimulation, and sensory integration to more than 175,000 pediatric patients and families each year. Our unique volunteer engagement model allows community groups, colleges, and corporations to create moments of connection with pediatric patients, caregivers, and families providing child and family-centered, play-based programming. Project Sunshine partners with 475 medical facilities across the U.S. and in four international locations.

We're beyond excited to share the magic of Project Sunshine's activity kits! These kits bring safe, creative play directly to children in hospitals, sparking joy and aiding in their physical and emotional healing. Each kit is lovingly prepared by volunteers and packed with developmentally specific activities. These Kits for Play do more than just alleviate boredom—they ignite imagination and create a sense of connectedness. Last month, CF Industries employees joined the fun, packing kits that brought smiles to 300 pediatric patients and their families! The #DeerfieldFoundation announced today the awarding of $1.5 million in support for 14 not-for-profit organizations in seven countries to improve the health of children and their families in 2025. The Deerfield Foundation, Deerfield Management's philanthropic affiliate, makes annual grants to help fuel organizations that share our mission to improve health, innovation and equity, with a focus on children and where they live. 🌞✨ Project Sunshine🌞 I recently had the heartwarming experience of visiting Mayo Clinic Rochester with my son, and we were incredibly touched by the amazing work of Project Sunshine. This wonderful organization is dedicated to delivering the healing power of play to children with medical needs through their trained and dedicated volunteers. 💛 Project Sunshine offers three incredible programs: Here To Play: Connecting patients to volunteers in hospitals, fostering in-person social interaction through creative arts. 🎨 TelePlay: Providing a live play experience with volunteers using a secure technology platform. 📱 Kits for Play: Delivering activity kits with arts and crafts directly to children. 🎁 Through these experiences, Project Sunshine creates moments of joy that promote healing in medical settings. My son and I were so grateful for the joy and creativity they brought into our day. 🌈 I'm also thrilled to share that my employer, American Family Insurance, matches our donations! Thanks to AmFam's generosity, I was able to come home and donate to Project Sunshine, knowing that my contribution would be doubled. 💖 Finding non-profits that you believe in is so important. This morning I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in Project Sunshine with my colleagues at the Phoenix office. For those who may not be familiar, Project Sunshine is an incredible program dedicated to helping children in hospitals. As a mother of two, I understand how challenging it can be for families in these situations, and I truly hope that the 1000 kits we are sending to various hospitals in Arizona will bring some joy and entertainment to the children. Each kit is filled with cute little items designed to entertain and bring some smiles this holiday season. Kudos to Mitch for coordinating this meaningful project.
