- 🧠Faculty Research Spotlight – Dr. Aaron Bowman & Dr. Anke Tukker, PhD ERTHow do environmental exposures influence brain health, and what can they teach us about preventing neurological disease? We're proud to highlight Dr. Aaron Bowman, professor in Purdue Health Sciences, and Dr. Anke Tukker, postdoctoral scholar in Dr. Bowman's laboratory, for their contributions to a recent publication in Neurotoxicology. Conducted in collaboration with Dr. Tao Ke, Dr. Michael Aschner, and colleagues at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, this research advances our understanding of how environmental factors interact with biological systems and contribute to neurological health outcomes. As a co-author on the publication, Dr. Tukker's work using a translational human brain cell-based system helped validate the role of STI-1/STIP1 and changes in cellular energy metabolism in mercury toxicity. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying neurotoxicity and may help inform future prevention, intervention, and public health strategies.
